MGLS Vacuum Gas-Water Separator

1 Product Overview

MGLS Vacuum Gas-Water Separator is a dedicated front protection unit for liquid ring vacuum units, widely adopted for various negative pressure suction processes. Wet gas generated during production carries massive free water droplets and condensed mist. Direct suction into vacuum pumps will cause liquid hammer impact on impellers, dilute pump working fluid, accelerate internal corrosion, resulting in decreased vacuum level, increased unit vibration and frequent maintenance.Wet gas mixture enters the cylinder via tangential inlet and forms stable swirling flow to realize primary separation under centrifugal force and gravity. Large water droplets sink along cylinder wall into bottom liquid storage zone. Gas turns upward and rises, residual fine mist collides, coalesces and falls back. When accumulated liquid reaches preset level, matched FPB filtrate pump overcomes internal negative pressure and discharges water continuously to maintain safe liquid level. Dry gas flows from upper outlet to vacuum pump.Different from ordinary atmospheric steam water separators, this equipment solves the industry bottleneck of gravity drainage failure under vacuum negative pressure. Without any filter consumables, it delivers stable long-term operation and becomes standard supporting equipment for vacuum systems in papermaking, fine chemical and pharmaceutical industries.

2 Main Structural Composition

  1. Vertical Pressure Vessel HousingMain materials: anti-corrosion painted Q235-B carbon steel, 304 / 316L stainless steel. Integrally rolled and welded with hydraulic tightness test before delivery. Tangential inlet flange arranged on side, gas outlet flange on upper part; reserved ports for liquid level sight glass and vacuum instrument. Liquid collection chamber and drain connection set at bottom.

  2. Built-in Swirl & Backflow Prevention AssemblyCore separation component. Guide baffles constrain airflow rotation track, prevent settled liquid from being re-entrained by upward airflow, block liquid backflow channel and improve separation efficiency.

  3. Liquid Level Sight Glass AssemblyPressure-resistant transparent window provides direct real-time observation of liquid level inside storage chamber to define start-stop range of filtrate pump.

  4. FPB Negative Pressure Filtrate Pump SetSpecial pressure overcoming pump matched with tank, capable of draining liquid under vacuum negative pressure for fully automatic continuous drainage, equipped with motor, base and shock absorption components.

  5. Optional Demister Flange on TopStainless steel wire mesh demister can be installed for further gas purification under high steam and heavy mist conditions.

  6. Support Base & Lifting LugsIntegrated welded legs guarantee stable vertical placement; top lifting lugs facilitate hoisting and installation.

3 Working Principle

Water-laden wet gas flows into MGLS cylinder from tangential side inlet and spirals downward along inner wall. High-density liquid droplets are thrown onto cylinder wall by centrifugal force, converge into water film and flow down into bottom liquid collection chamber. After swirling separation, airflow reverses and climbs upward with reduced flow velocity. Remaining tiny mist droplets collide and coalesce, falling back into liquid storage area by gravity. Dry clean gas is delivered from upper cylinder outlet to vacuum pump inlet.Liquid level rises continuously with ongoing separation. FPB filtrate pump starts once liquid height reaches setting value, discharges accumulated water against internal vacuum pressure and stops when liquid level drops to low limit to achieve circulating operation.Built-in anti-backwater baffles isolate upward airflow and bottom liquid, effectively suppress secondary liquid entrainment and ensure stable dehydration performance long term.

4 Basic Technical Parameters

Applicable medium: water-bearing humid air, saturated steam, process negative pressure mixed gasHousing material: anti-corrosion carbon steel / 304 stainless steel / 316L stainless steelOperating condition: atmospheric negative pressureMax working temperature: ≤80℃Separation efficiency: ≥99% (liquid droplets ≥5μm)Allowable pressure drop: ≤2.5 kPaConnection standard: GB flange connectionInstallation mode: vertical floor mountingMatching equipment: FPB series negative pressure filtrate pumpCompatible vacuum device: all types of liquid ring vacuum pumps

5 Core Product Advantages

  1. Solve vacuum negative pressure drainage pain point; forced drainage by matched filtrate pump without intermittent shutdown for water discharge to sustain continuous production.

  2. Composite swirling gravity separation structure, no filter consumables. Zero spare part purchase cost in whole service cycle.

  3. Low pressure drop flow channel design with negligible loss of vacuum suction, avoiding pumping capacity decline after separator installation.

  4. Built-in backflow prevention structure eliminates liquid re-atomization and re-entrainment; separation performance far exceeds simple gravity settling tanks.

  5. Buffer liquid hammer effectively, protect vacuum pump impeller and cavity, extend pump service life and reduce spare parts consumption.

  6. Flexible material selection: carbon steel for neutral water vapor; stainless steel for weak acid and corrosive steam medium.

  7. Visual liquid level monitoring enables straightforward operation and standardized inspection management.

  8. Modular complete supply including tank, filtrate pump and integrated base pipeline, reducing on-site design and pipeline modification workload.

  9. Complete model series covering small, medium and large flow vacuum units; customized enlarged design available according to on-site gas flow rate.

  10. Robust cylinder resistant to water vapor erosion, long design service life, suitable for 24-hour continuous industrial working conditions.

6 Installation, Commissioning & Maintenance Specification

Install vertically on flat ground with even force on supports. Mount sealing gaskets between flanges and fasten bolts diagonally to prevent air leakage breaking vacuum system.Connect inlet flange to process negative pressure pipeline and outlet directly to vacuum pump suction port; reverse installation is strictly prohibited.Check pump rotation direction and valve status before initial startup; start drain pump trial run prior to vacuum pump activation.Monitor liquid level via sight glass and vacuum gauge during daily inspection; regularly check filtrate pump for abnormal noise and seal leakage.Open bottom blowdown port periodically to clean sludge and solid sediment avoiding drain pipeline blockage. For long-term shutdown maintenance, close pipeline valves, vent to atmosphere and drain residual liquid. Inspect internal baffle corrosion condition.Continuous operation beyond rated temperature limit is forbidden. Pre-separation unit shall be installed upstream if medium contains massive oily impurities.

7 Common Faults & Solutions

  1. Poor separation effect, continuous water entering vacuum pumpCauses: airflow exceeds rated processing capacity; deformed or detached internal baffles; excessive liquid level leading to heavy mist entrainmentSolutions: upgrade equipment specification after gas flow calculation; open tank to inspect and repair internals; adjust start-stop liquid level range of filtrate pump

  2. Filtrate pump fails to drain water, liquid level keeps rising inside tankCauses: reversed pump rotation; blocked drain pipeline; worn pump impeller; abnormal liquid level control signalSolutions: adjust motor phase sequence; dredge drain pipeline; overhaul or replace filtrate pump; calibrate liquid level control device

  3. Obvious vacuum degree drop of systemCauses: air leakage at cylinder flanges and sight glass; failed sealing of inlet & outlet pipelinesSolutions: inspect all sealing points thoroughly, replace aged gaskets and retighten flange bolts evenly

  4. Water seepage at cylinder welds and flangesCauses: minor welding defects; aged and crushed gaskets; uneven bolt tensionSolutions: release pressure and drain liquid, repair weld defects; install brand-new sealing gaskets; fasten fasteners evenly in diagonal sequence

  5. Severe noise and vibration of filtrate pump during operationCauses: missing shock absorption under pump base; air ingress cavitation; pipeline tension pulling pump bodySolutions: install shock absorption pads; locate and seal air leakage points; add pipeline fixed supports
