Hand Brush Y-type Strainer

1 Product Overview

Hand Brush Y-type Strainer is a semi-automatic pressure pipeline filter. Fluid enters Y-shaped chamber, particles larger than nominal rating are trapped on outer surface of metal screen. Fouling raises differential pressure. Operators can start cleaning without shutdown or disassembly: open bottom blowdown valve, rotate external crank to drive built-in brush sweeping screen, contaminants are discharged through drain port. Close blowdown valve after cleaning to resume normal filtration.

Different from conventional simple Y strainers which require shutdown and screen removal for flushing; this unit supports on-line continuous cleaning.Compared with electric self-cleaning filters, no motor & control cabinet required, lower capital cost, suitable for medium flow applications with moderate cleaning frequency and limited power supply access.

2 Main Structural Composition

  1. Y-type Pressure Vessel AssemblyEpoxy coated carbon steel / SUS304 / SUS316L cylinder with flanged nozzles and inclined screen chamber.

  2. Metal Screen AssemblyStandard 316L wedge wire screen; stainless woven mesh optional.

  3. Manual Crank Cleaning AssemblyExternal operating handle, transmission shaft and wear-resistant nylon brush frame.

  4. Blowdown Valve AssemblyManual ball valve for discharging swept contaminants.

  5. Pressure Gauge Monitoring SetInlet & outlet gauges to monitor fouling differential pressure.

  6. Shaft Seal AssemblyAge-resistant packing & gaskets to prevent medium leakage at drive shaft.

3 Working Principle

Filtration ModeFluid enters Y-shaped chamber and permeates inward through screen. Solid contaminants are retained on screen outer wall; clarified water flows downstream through outlet, forming filter cake gradually.

Cleaning ModeObserve pressure gauges; start cleaning when differential pressure reaches preset limit:Open bottom blowdown ball valve, continuously rotate crank. Transmission shaft drives brush to circumferentially sweep screen surface and strip accumulated sludge. Pipeline flow carries impurities out through drain valve.Close blowdown valve and stop cranking after cleaning; filter resumes continuous operation without main pipeline shutdown.

4 Basic Technical Parameters

Applicable medium: industrial cooling water, surface water, well water, landscape water, neutral & mildly corrosive process waterHousing material: Q235 coated carbon steel, SUS304, SUS316LScreen material: 316L wedge wireDesign pressure: 1.0MPa / 1.6MPa; custom up to 2.5MPaOperating temperature: 5~90℃Available filtration rating: 50μm, 100μm, 200μm, 500μm, 1000μm, 3000μmNominal size: DN50 ~ DN600Installation: horizontal / inclined Y-type mountingMax pressure drop: ≤0.07MPaBlowdown water consumption: ≤0.8% of total flowDriving mode: manual crank (no motor)

5 Core Product Advantages

  1. Compact Y-shaped layout enables flexible piping and small footprint.

  2. On-line continuous cleaning without flow interruption to guarantee steady water supply.

  3. Pure mechanical manual structure, zero power consumption and no electrical failure risk.

  4. Permanent reusable metal screen eliminates recurring consumable expenditure.

  5. Intuitive differential pressure indicator guides cleaning timing, easy operation.

  6. Low maintenance workload, avoid frequent cover opening & screen disassembly.

  7. Versatile material selection for fresh water and mildly corrosive raw water.

  8. Lower investment compared with fully automatic electric self-cleaning filters.

  9. Full coverage brush delivers uniform sweeping and reduces clogging risk.

  10. Parallel installation available for capacity expansion to satisfy variable flow demand.

6 Installation, Commissioning & Maintenance Specification

Install strictly following flow marking; arrange Y-shaped screen chamber inclined downward to facilitate sediment settling. Reserve sufficient straight pipe sections upstream & downstream.Isolation valves and bypass are recommended for offline maintenance.Flush internal welding residues before initial commissioning; record clean baseline differential pressure as reference.Routinely monitor pressure gauge readings and perform cleaning timely when DP exceeds threshold; avoid long-term operation under excessive pressure drop.Annually inspect brush abrasion and shaft seal leakage; replace worn brush timely when clearance becomes excessive.Complete one full cleaning cycle and drain residual water before long shutdown to prevent sludge hardening and screen corrosion.

7 Common Faults & Solutions

  1. DP rises rapidly with shortened cleaning intervalCauses: excessive inlet suspended solids; damaged screen; insufficient upstream pretreatmentSolutions: install upstream coarse strainer; open inspection cover to repair or replace screen; optimize front-end water treatment

  2. DP cannot recover after brushing, unsatisfactory cleaning effectCauses: worn shortened brush; sticky persistent contaminants; insufficient blowdown flowSolutions: install new brush; extend sweeping duration; inspect and unclog blowdown pipeline

  3. Crank rotates stiffly with excessive resistanceCauses: foreign object jamming screen; rusted transmission shaft; assembly misalignmentSolutions: remove bulk debris after opening cover; derust and lubricate drive mechanism; adjust assembly clearance

  4. Medium leakage at transmission shaftCauses: aged shaft seal; insufficient packing lubrication; worn shaft surfaceSolutions: replace sealing gasket; replenish packing lubricant; overhaul transmission shaft

  5. Flange joint leakageCauses: aged gasket; uneven bolt tension; damaged sealing surfaceSolutions: install new gasket; tighten bolts diagonally; rework sealing face
