Y-type Strainer

1 Product Overview

Y-type Strainer is a basic inline coarse filter for pipelines. Fluid enters Y-shaped chamber, solid contaminants are trapped on outer surface of stainless steel basket. Fouling gradually increases differential pressure. For cleaning, upstream & downstream valves must be closed, system depressurized, bottom bonnet removed, filter basket taken out for external flushing before re-commissioning.

Classification Distinction

  • Y-type Strainer: Basic version, no brush or crank; requires shutdown for basket removal & cleaning.

  • Hand Brush Y-type Strainer: Equipped with external crank, allows on-line cleaning without flow interruption.

  • Y-type Self-cleaning Strainer: Electric automatic brush type with PLC control for unattended continuous cleaning.

2 Main Structural Composition

  1. Y-type BodyCast iron / WCB carbon steel / SUS304/316L casting with inlet, outlet and inclined basket chamber.

  2. Stainless Steel Filter Basket304 / 316L perforated or woven screen with reinforcement support.

  3. Bottom Bonnet & FastenersFlange cover and bolt set for disassembly.

  4. Sealing GasketGraphite, EPDM or PTFE gasket to prevent flange leakage.

3 Working Principle

Filtration ModeFluid flows from inlet, passes outward through basket; solid particles retained on basket outer wall, clean medium flows towards outlet. Contaminants accumulate and gradually raise differential pressure.

Cleaning ModeIsolate the strainer by closing isolation valves and depressurize. Remove bottom bonnet and extract basket for flushing. Reassemble, vent and pressurize before restarting pipeline.Note: Pipeline flow must be interrupted; on-line cleaning is not supported.

6 Installation, Commissioning & Maintenance Specification

Install following flow arrow mark; arrange basket chamber downward for sediment settlement.Isolation valves on both sides are recommended; bypass pipeline advised for critical systems.Clean basket before initial commissioning; record clean baseline differential pressure.Monitor DP regularly and shut down for cleaning once threshold reached; avoid long-term overpressure drop operation.Do not strike basket hard during cleaning to prevent deformation; replace aged gaskets timely.Fully clean basket and drain residual water before long-term shutdown to avoid corrosion.
