Galvanized Steel Pipe is a welded or seamless steel pipe with zinc coating on the surface. Hot-Dip Galvanized Pipe is the mainstream product, and Anti-Corrosion Galvanized Pipe is widely used in humid and corrosive environments. The zinc layer provides cathodic protection. Galvanized Steel Pipe features excellent rust resistance and long service life with high cost performance. Hot-Dip Galvanized Pipe comes with thick coating, strong adhesion and longer service life. Anti-Corrosion Galvanized Pipe can effectively isolate air and moisture and greatly cut down maintenance costs. It is a commonly used pipe material for construction, municipal engineering, fire protection and steel structure industries.
1. Implementation Standards
Domestic Standards: GB/T 3091 Welded Steel Pipes for Low Pressure Fluid Transportation, GB/T 13912 Metallic Coatings — Hot-Dip Galvanized Coatings on Fabricated Iron and Steel Articles — Specifications and Test Methods.
International Standards: ASTM A53, ASTM A123, BS1387, EN10255, JIS G3442, ISO65, which can meet global procurement requirements.
2. Materials and Galvanizing Technology
2.1 Base Material
High-quality low carbon steel (Q195, Q235, Q355): Moderate strength, good ductility, easy for welding and processing.
2.2 Galvanizing Technology
Hot-dip Galvanizing: Steel pipes are immersed in molten zinc liquid at around 450℃ to form a dense alloy layer with thickness of 50–150μm. It features uniform coating and strong adhesion, with a service life of 20 to 50 years. It is applicable for outdoor, buried, coastal and other highly corrosive scenarios.
Electro-galvanizing: A thin zinc layer of 5–30μm is formed by electrolytic deposition. It has smooth and attractive surface and low cost, yet with weaker corrosion resistance, mostly used for indoor, dry environments or decoration purposes.
3. Specification Parameters
Nominal Diameter: DN15 (1/2") – DN300 (12"), customized sizes from DN350 to DN500 are available.
Outer Diameter: 21.3–323.9mm (corresponding to DN15–DN300).
Wall Thickness: Standard wall SCH40 (1.8–8.0mm), extra heavy wall SCH80 (3.0–10mm).
Length: Standard length is 6m; customized lengths of 3m, 9m, 12m or other fixed sizes are acceptable.
Pipe End Treatment: Plain end (for welding and structural support), threaded end (matched with pipe couplings for water supply, drainage and fire fighting), beveled end (for large-diameter welding).
4. Performance Characteristics
Excellent Corrosion Resistance: The zinc layer acts as sacrificial anode for protection. Rusting can be restrained even if the coating is scratched. The pipe resists corrosion from atmosphere, soil, weak acid and alkali.
Long Service Life: Hot-dip galvanized pipes can serve 20–30 years outdoors and up to 50 years when buried underground, far longer than ordinary black steel pipes.
High Mechanical Strength: Good pressure resistance and impact resistance, not easy to deform, suitable for structural support and fluid transportation.
Convenient Installation: Smooth surface ensures reliable welding and threaded connection. Complete specifications and universal matching fittings are available.
Economical and Eco-friendly: Lower price than stainless steel with low maintenance cost. The zinc coating is recyclable without pollution.
5. Main Applications
Building Water Supply and Drainage: Cold water delivery, fire sprinkler and fire hydrant systems.
Municipal Engineering: Rainwater, sewage, gas and buried pipelines.
Steel Structure Projects: Scaffolding, fences, guardrails, greenhouse frames and power transmission towers.
Electrical Conduits: Protection pipes for electric wires and cables to prevent moisture and damage.
Agriculture and Industry: Farmland irrigation, greenhouses and pipelines for conveying low-corrosive industrial media.
6. Surface and Quality Requirements
Surface: Uniform silver-gray or bright zinc finish, free of missing plating, peeling, bubbles, scratches and nodules.
Zinc Layer Thickness: Hot-dip galvanized layer ≥85μm (for outdoor and buried use); electro-galvanized layer ≥15μm (for indoor use).
Mechanical Properties: Tensile strength ≥335MPa, yield strength ≥205MPa, elongation ≥15%.
Hydrostatic Test: Each pipe is tested one by one. The standard working pressure is ≤2.5MPa, and extra heavy wall pipes can bear higher pressure.
7. Packaging and Marking
Packaging: Small-diameter pipes are bundled (50–100 pieces per bundle) and fitted with plastic end caps. Large-diameter pipes are wrapped with tarpaulin and sealed at pipe ends for moisture and rust prevention.
Marking: Specifications, material, execution standard, heat number, manufacturer and production date are printed on each bundle and each pipe. Material certificates, qualification certificates and pressure test reports are provided together with goods for full traceability.
8. Delivery Cycle
Regular in-stock products: Shipment within 3–7 working days.
Custom specifications and special zinc coating: Production lead time is 12–18 working days.
Large batch orders: Rush production is available, and the specific delivery time can be negotiated.
