Petroleum Pipe is the core special tubular product for oil and gas exploration and development. Oil Casing and Line Pipe are its two most widely used main products. Various types of Petroleum Pipe can adapt to extreme working conditions such as deep wells with high pressure, high temperature and high sulfur content. Oil Casing is mainly used for well wall support and formation isolation to ensure the safety of drilling and production operations. Line Pipe undertakes the long-distance transportation of crude oil and natural gas. They work together to support the whole production process of onshore and offshore oilfields.
1. Implementation Standards
International Standards: API Spec 5CT, API Spec 5L, API Spec 5DP, NACE MR0175, which strictly control all technical indicators of Petroleum Pipe.
Domestic Standards: GB/T 9711, GB/T 19830, SY/T 6276, equivalent to international API standards. They meet the procurement and application requirements of global customers for Oil Casing and Line Pipe.
2. Product Classification & Steel Grades
2.1 Oil Casing
Oil Casing is applied for well cementing, well wall collapse prevention and formation separation, acting as the fundamental guarantee for safe oil well operation.
Outer Diameter: 114.3–508mm (4.5"–20")
Steel Grades: J55, K55, N80, L80, P110, Q125; Sulfur-resistant grades: L80-13Cr, C90, T95
Thread Types: Short round thread, long round thread, buttress thread, premium gas-tight thread
2.2 Oil Tubing
Used together with Oil Casing, it serves as the channel for oil and gas production, water injection, acidizing and fracturing.
Outer Diameter: 60.3–114.3mm (2.375"–4.5")
Steel Grades: J55, N80, L80, P110; including external upset, non-upset and integral joint types
2.3 Drill Pipe
A supporting type of Petroleum Pipe for torque transmission and drilling fluid delivery, connecting ground equipment and drill bits.
Outer Diameter: 60.3–168.3mm
Steel Grades: E75, X95, G105, S135, featuring high strength, high torsion resistance and fatigue resistance
2.4 Line Pipe
Line Pipe is specially designed for long-distance oil and gas transportation, suitable for onshore trunk pipelines and subsea pipeline networks.
Outer Diameter: 60.3–762mm
Steel Grades: X42, X52, X60, X65, X70, X80
Processing Types: Seamless pipe, ERW pipe, LSAW pipe, SSAW pipe
3. Manufacturing Process
Mainstream Petroleum Pipe is produced by seamless rolling process. Through billet heating, piercing, hot rolling, cold drawing, overall heat treatment, sizing, threading and non-destructive testing, the pipe body features compact structure and excellent pressure resistance without leakage risks. Large-diameter Line Pipe is mostly made by steel plate rolling and welding, with large output and cost performance. All Oil Casing is processed by quenching and tempering, normalizing plus tempering to stabilize mechanical properties and improve resistance to sulfide stress cracking.
4. Core Performance
High Structural Strength: Petroleum Pipe has outstanding tensile strength, collapse resistance and tensile resistance, suitable for deep wells of 2000–6000 meters. Oil Casing can effectively withstand formation pressure.
Excellent Corrosion Resistance: Resists corrosion caused by carbon dioxide, hydrogen sulfide and chloride ions, certified by NACE for stable service in highly corrosive oil and gas fields.
Reliable Sealing Performance: The precise thread structure of Oil Casing ensures excellent sealing under high temperature and high pressure. Line Pipe has firm welds with no leakage during long-distance transportation.
Superior Low-temperature Toughness: Low-temperature grades can work normally at -40℃, ideal for polar and offshore oil and gas projects.
5. Main Specifications
Oil Casing: 4-1/2"–13-5/8", wall thickness 6.2–16mm, standard length R1/R2/R3
Oil Tubing: 2-3/8"–4-1/2", wall thickness 3.2–6.5mm, standard length 8–10m, supplied with couplings
Line Pipe: 2"–30", wall thickness 3–25mm, fixed length 6m / 12m, available with anti-corrosion coating
6. Surface Treatment & Anti-corrosion
Pipe Body: Coated with black anti-rust paint or epoxy zinc-rich paint. 3LPE and FBE coating are optional. Subsea Line Pipe adopts 3LPP protective layer.
Thread: Threads of Oil Casing and tubing are phosphated or copper-plated, equipped with special thread protectors to prevent rust and galling and ensure connection accuracy.
7. Quality Inspection
Every piece of Petroleum Pipe is inspected in appearance, dimension, wall thickness and straightness, and passed hydrostatic test. The test pressure for Oil Casing is no less than 50MPa, and Line Pipe is tested step by step according to working standards. Ultrasonic, eddy current and magnetic particle non-destructive testing are applied. Premium products are subject to additional metallographic analysis and chemical composition recheck. All products are certified by API, ISO and NACE with full traceability.
8. Packaging & Marking
Packaging: Oil Casing and tubing are bundled by specifications, 10–20 pieces per bundle with end protectors. Large-diameter Line Pipe is wrapped with tarpaulin to resist moisture, rust and collision during long-distance transportation.
Marking: API logo, steel grade, specification, heat number, standard and manufacturer are printed on each pipe. Complete quality certificates, testing reports and material documents are delivered together.
9. Applications
Onshore Oil & Gas Fields: Conventional wells, deep wells, high-sulfur wells and heavy oil thermal recovery wells, widely equipped with Oil Casing and supporting Petroleum Pipe.
Offshore Oil & Gas Projects: Offshore platform wells and subsea pipeline networks, where high-pressure anti-corrosion Line Pipe is the main material.
Unconventional Oil & Gas Projects: Shale gas, coalbed methane and tight oil horizontal wells, adopting full series of Petroleum Pipe.
Refining & Gathering System: Furnace tubes and gathering pipelines in refineries, using temperature and pressure resistant Line Pipe.
10. Delivery Cycle

Petroleum Pipe with special steel grades, non-standard specifications and customized wall thickness/length: Production lead time 15–25 working days, delivered in production order.
