1. Basic Definition & Production Process
Oil Country Tubular Goods (OCTG) refer to seamless steel pipes specially used for oil and gas exploitation and transportation. They are produced from high-quality carbon steel and low-alloy corrosion-resistant steel billets via hot rolling, cold drawing and hot expanding, matched with professional heat treatment to meet harsh working conditions such as underground high pressure, high temperature and corrosive media.
Complete production flow:Billet inspection → Heating & piercing → Pipe rolling & sizing → Quenching and tempering heat treatment → Straightening → Nondestructive testing → Thread machining → Phosphating & passivation protection → Re-inspection → Marking, packaging and warehousing

Casing & Tubing: OD 26.9mm~508mm, wall thickness 3.5mm~16mm, with round thread and buttress thread
Line Pipe: OD 21.3mm~1422mm, wall thickness 2.75mm~60mm, mainly connected by welding
Drill Pipe & Drill Collar: Heavy-wall alloy OCTG for drilling with ultra-high torsion and compression resistance

Disadvantages
High cost of alloy raw materials and precision thread machining, higher price than ordinary carbon steel pipes
Threads require strict protection; collision during storage and transport easily damages threads, thread protectors are mandatory
Extra anti-corrosion lining or alloy coating is needed for severely corrosive wells, increasing total cost
