HorizontalElectric Detarring Precipitator(electric detarring precipitator) refers to a primary cooling equipment for coke oven gas that uses the action of a high - voltage DC electric field to separate tar droplets from gas. The electric detarring precipitator can be installed before or after the coke oven gas blower. Compared with mechanical tar removers, the electric detarring precipitator has the characteristics of high tar capture efficiency, small resistance loss, and large gas handling capacity [1]  . It can not only ensure the gas quality requirements for subsequent processes and improve the product recovery rate, but also significantly improve the operating environment.

The electric detarring precipitator adopts three structural forms: concentric circle type, tube type, and honeycomb type. Regardless of the structure, its working principle is to apply high - voltage direct current between the metal wire and the metal pipe wall (or plate) to maintain an electric field sufficient to ionize the gas, forming a corona area between the anode and cathode
[1]  .

Theoretical Basis
According to the electric field theory, positive ions are adsorbed on the negatively charged corona electrode, and negative ions are adsorbed on the positively charged precipitation electrode; all the ionized positive and negative ions fill the entire space between the corona electrode and the precipitation electrode. When the gas containing tar droplets and other impurities passes through this electric field, the impurities that have adsorbed negative ions and electrons move to the precipitation electrode under the action of the electric field Coulomb force, release the charges they carry, and are adsorbed on the precipitation electrode, thus achieving the purpose of purifying the gas, which is usually called the charging phenomenon. When the amount of impurities adsorbed on the precipitation electrode increases to be greater than its adhesion, they will automatically flow down and be discharged from the bottom of the electric detarring precipitator, while the purified gas leaves from the upper part of the electric detarring precipitator and enters the next process [1]  .

Working Mechanism
Gas Discharge Process: Under normal circumstances, gases do not conduct electricity. However, under the action of a high-voltage electric field, the electrons inside the gas will gain enough energy to become free electrons and conduct electricity, which is called the spontaneous ionization phenomenon. The spontaneous ionization of gas occurs in a non-uniform electric field. In a uniform electric field, as the voltage increases, as long as ionization occurs at any point, the space between the two electrodes will be immediately filled with charged ions, and the gas in the entire space will be broken down. At this time, the current increases sharply and forms a spark discharge. In a non-uniform electric field, the electric field strength decreases rapidly as the distance between the two electrodes increases.

Industrial choices :
According to the different polarities of the power supply, there are negative corona and positive corona. In industrial production, negative corona is mostly used because under the same conditions, negative corona can obtain a higher current than positive corona, and its flashover voltage is also much higher than that of positive corona discharge.
Main factors affecting the performance of the electrostatic precipitator:
Since there are many factors affecting the operating performance of the electrostatic tar precipitator, please inform the density, viscosity, specific resistance, gas temperature, pressure, humidity, flow rate, and impurity concentration of dust and droplets when selecting the model.
