Expanded polystyrene (EPS) CE certification – Product directives and coordinated standards that need to be met
A.Product Directives:CPR(Construction Product Regulation) 305/2011/EU
B. European harmonized standards:EN 14309 Thermal insulation products for building equipment and industrial installations. Factory made products of expanded polystyrene (EPS). Specification;
²According to the EN 14309 standard, the following test items are required for the CE certification of expanded polystyrene (EPS):
ŸCombustion performance test: Evaluate the combustion characteristics of the product when a fire occurs. The combustion performance test is to ensure that the insulation material meets the corresponding fire safety requirements in the use of buildings, reduce fire risks, and protect the safety of people and property. (Required items)
ŸThermal conductivity test: This test is used to evaluate the thermal insulation performance of the product, that is, the ease with which heat is transferred through the material. Lower thermal conductivity means better insulation effect, which can effectively reduce heat transfer, reduce energy consumption, and improve the energy efficiency of buildings.
ŸCompression strength test: Detect the bearing capacity and deformation of the product when subjected to compression. Sufficient compression strength ensures that the insulation material can withstand external pressure during use, such as the weight of the building, wind load, etc., without excessive deformation or damage.
ŸBending strength test: Evaluate the strength and toughness of the product when subjected to bending force. Bending strength is particularly important for some insulation materials or insulation structural components that need to be used in a bent state. It reflects the ability of the material to resist bending deformation and damage.
Ÿ Shear strength test: Determine the shear resistance of the product when subjected to shear force. Shear strength testing helps evaluate the stability and reliability of insulation materials under different stress conditions, especially when there are connections or interactions between different material layers in the insulation system.
Ÿ Water vapor transmission rate test: Measures the permeability of the product to water vapor. Low water vapor transmission rate prevents moisture from entering the insulation layer, avoiding problems such as reduced insulation performance and material corrosion caused by moisture accumulation, thereby ensuring the long-term effectiveness of the insulation system.
EN 14309 certification is a key passport for products to enter the European market. In the EU construction market, building insulation materials are strictly regulated. If a product does not obtain EN 14309 certification, it cannot be legally sold and used in EU countries. This is like the product has obtained an "entry ticket" in the field of EU building insulation, laying the foundation for the product to open up a vast European market.
