What is engineered wood flooring?
Engineered wood flooring is a type of wood flooring made by interlacing and laminating boards of different tree species. It is generally divided into three structures:
ŸTwo-layer engineered wood flooring: It consists of two layers, the panel and the base. The panel is generally a solid wood veneer, and the base can be solid wood or plywood, etc.
ŸThree-layer engineered wood flooring: It is a common type in home decoration, which is made of three layers of solid wood veneers interlaced and laminated. The surface layer is made of high-quality broad-leaved wood slats, such as oak, beech, oak and ash; the core layer is made of ordinary soft and miscellaneous slats, such as pine and poplar; the bottom layer is peeled veneer, such as poplar, birch and pine.
ŸMulti-layer solid wood composite floor: It uses multi-layer plywood as the base material and hardwood veneer or veneer as the panel, which is made by staggered hot pressing of urea-formaldehyde resin glue. Its stability is better than that of three-layer composite floor.
EN 14342 solid wood floor certification scope:
It covers various types of wood flooring and parquet flooring, such as solid wood flooring, multi-layer solid wood composite flooring, three-layer solid wood composite flooring, but does not apply to bamboo flooring, laminate flooring, wood flooring products specially made for enhancing touch and identification, products made of plants such as aloe vera, cork or coconut, etc.
ŸSolid wood composite floor CE certification-EN 14342-CPR 305/2011/EU
As a mandatory CE certification for export to Europe, under normal circumstances, system 1 or system 3 is selected for certification based on whether the product has added flame retardants. However, solid wood composite flooring does not have flame retardants under normal circumstances, and generally applies for CE certification according to system 3, and does not require factory inspection.
Regarding the application process for EN 14342 system 3 CE certification, you can refer to the following procedures:
1. Determine the type of product to be certified, including thickness and other ranges, and submit an application
2. Determine the European product directive, and solid wood composite flooring must comply with the new EU Construction Products Regulation CPR 305/2011/EU
3. Determine the European harmonized standards, and solid wood composite flooring must comply with the harmonized standard EN 14342
4. Test and evaluate according to the CPR directive and the harmonized standard EN 14342, and solid wood composite flooring generally applies for certification according to system 3
5. Obtain a test report and certificate issued by the EU notified body (test and certification by the notified laboratory according to system 3)
6. Issue a product performance declaration (Declaration of Performance)
7. Affix the CE mark with the notified body code to the product packaging
8. Freely sell in the European market
