Energy Storage Cabinet UL 263 American UL Fire Resistance Test
The UL 263 standard itself is mainly a fire test standard for building structures and materials, not directly for energy storage equipment. Energy storage cabinets must perform UL 263 fire resistance tests, and the horizontal and vertical materials of the cabinets need to be tested separately.
UL 263 Fire Resistance Test - Product Scope:
UL 263 covers a variety of building products, including building components such as walls, partitions, floors, roofs, doors, windows, and various building materials such as concrete, steel, bricks, gypsum, wood, and plastics. It also involves different types of systems such as fire-resistant glass, fire-resistant doors, and fire-resistant shutters.
UL 263 fire resistance tests mainly include fire resistance tests and water flow impact tests:
Ø Fire resistance test: The building material or system is placed in a test furnace to be subjected to the test of a standard fire curve, and the furnace temperature is increased by a preset increment. By measuring the temperature rise of non-exposed surfaces and the duration of the test, the material or system is assigned a fire resistance rating of 20 minutes to 4 hours or more based on its performance in the test.
Performance determination:
ŸFire resistance integrity: Under standard fire resistance test conditions, the ability of building partition components to prevent flames and hot gas from penetrating or flames from appearing on the back fire side for a certain period of time when one side is exposed to fire.
ŸFire resistance insulation: Under standard fire resistance test conditions, the ability of building partition components to keep the back fire side temperature below the specified value for a certain period of time when one side is exposed to fire.
ØWater flow impact test: After the fire resistance test, the material or system is directly sprayed with high-pressure water to simulate the impact of falling debris or fire extinguishing actions in a fire to evaluate its impact resistance and resistance to water penetration. Materials or systems must pass both the fire resistance test and the water gun test to obtain the UL 263 fire rating.
Test report related content:
The test report is issued according to the performance test method specified in the standard. The report shows the fire resistance performance under the specified time, such as 20min, 30min, 60min, 90min or 120min, etc. It should also include the temperature measurement of the test furnace, the measurement of the selected unexposed surface, and the observation and record of all equipment performance.
