1. Product Definition

Shipbuilding Steel Plate, full name Structural Steel Plate for Ship and Offshore Engineering, is special hot rolled steel plate exclusively used for hull structures and offshore platforms, certified by global classification societies. Strict control of sulfur and phosphorus impurities delivers excellent low-temperature impact toughness, lamellar tearing resistance, outstanding weldability, seawater salt fog corrosion resistance and fatigue resistance under alternating wave loads. It can serve stably long-term under harsh marine conditions with high humidity, heavy salt fog and extreme temperature fluctuation.

Domestic Standard: GB/T 712-2022 Structural Steel for Ship and Offshore EngineeringInternational Standards: ASTM A131, IACS Unified Rules; Certificates available for CCS, ABS, DNV, BV, LR, NK, KR classification societies.

2. Grade Classification & Service Navigation Zones

2.1 Ordinary Strength Ship Plate (Min Yield ≥235MPa)

  1. Grade A: No mandatory impact test, for inland vessels, non-load-bearing inner cabin structures and small deck accessories

  2. Grade B: Qualified impact test at 0℃, for coastal short-distance cargo ships, fishing boat common hull plates and superstructures

  3. Grade D: -20℃ low-temperature impact resistance, key load-bearing parts of ocean-going vessels including bottom plates, side plates, main decks and bulkheads

  4. Grade E: -40℃ ultra-low temperature impact resistance, main hull structures for transoceanic cold-latitude routes and frigid sea areas

2.2 High Strength Ship Plate (Most Widely Used)

Grade naming rule: AH/DH/EH/FH + number, H stands for high strength, number refers to minimum yield strength; prefix letter indicates impact test temperature

  • Series 32: AH32/DH32/EH32, Min yield ≥315MPa

  • Series 36: AH36/DH36/EH36, Min yield ≥355MPa, mainstream grade for container ships, bulk carriers and oil tankers

  • Series 40: AH40/DH40/EH40, Min yield ≥390MPa, for heavy-duty structures of large offshore platforms and heavy vessels

2.3 Ultra-High Strength Ship Plate (Heavy Offshore Components)

FH36, FH40, EH460 with -60℃ extreme low temperature impact resistance, min yield strength 460MPa; applied for semi-submersible platforms, drilling platform legs and load-bearing hull structures of large oil storage vessels.

3. Heat Treatment Delivery Status

  1. TMCP Thermo-Mechanical Controlled Rolling: Mainstream supply process, refined grain, low carbon equivalent and optimal weldability, suitable for thickness 6–100mm

  2. HR Hot Rolled: Only for thin plates below 8mm, auxiliary plates for light inland vessels

  3. N Normalizing: For heavy plates over 50mm and critical offshore components, greatly improve low-temperature toughness

  4. Normalizing + Tempering: For ultra-high strength FH series and polar ships, release internal stress and resist fatigue cracking

Optional Additional Properties

  1. Z-direction performance Z15/Z25/Z35: Designed for thick plate T-joint welding to prevent lamellar tearing

  2. Ultrasonic Test: Grade I/II per NB/T47013, mandatory for offshore platforms and large oil tankers

  3. Surface Pre-treatment: Shot blasting & priming to meet PSPC coating standard for ship ballast tanks

4. Complete Specification Parameters

  1. Thickness: 8–250mm, regular stock range 10–120mm; maximum 250mm for offshore heavy plates

  2. Width: 1500/1800/2000/2200/2500/3000/4200mm, customized extra width available

  3. Length: 6000–12000mm, cut-to-length and special shape cutting per drawing

  4. Surface Finish: Hot rolled black scale, sandblasting and shot blasting pre-treatment optional

  5. Tolerance Standard: Dimensional tolerance comply with GB/T709, Class C high precision tolerance upon request

5. Standard Mechanical Properties (Medium Thickness Reference)

Grade Yield Strength (MPa) Tensile Strength (MPa) Elongation Impact Test Temp Min Impact Energy
A/B ≥235 400–520 ≥22% Grade B: 0℃ 27J
D/E ≥235 400–520 ≥22% D: -20℃ / E: -40℃ 34J
AH36/DH36 ≥355 490–630 ≥21% AH:0℃ / DH:-20℃ 34J
EH36 ≥355 490–630 ≥21% -40℃ 34J

6. Core Product Advantages

  1. Strict metallurgical control: Ultra-low S & P content, adjustable carbon equivalent, effectively reduce cold welding crack risk during ship construction

  2. Stable toughness across full temperature range: Qualified impact performance from ambient to -60℃, avoid brittle fracture in polar and frigid sea areas

  3. Superior marine weather resistance: Resist seawater salt fog, high humidity and wave impact, anti-fatigue cracking for long-term service

  4. Excellent forming & weldability: Smooth cold bending, hot rolling, edge milling and groove processing, wide construction process window for shipyards

  5. Optional Z-direction anti-tear performance: Z15/Z25/Z35 guarantee safety for full penetration welding of thick plates

  6. Full classification society certification: Original certificates from multiple marine societies, fully compliant for domestic and overseas shipbuilding & offshore projects acceptance

  7. Stable fatigue resistance: Adapt to long-term alternating wave loads during navigation, extend vessel service life

7. Main Application Fields

  1. Civil ShipbuildingBulk carriers, container ships, oil tankers, ro-ro ships, fishing boats, inland transport vessels, hull bottom plates, side plates, decks, keels, bulkheads and superstructures
