1. Product Definition
Color Coated Coil, abbreviated as PPGI / PPGL in international trade, also known as prepainted steel coil. It is manufactured with cold rolled substrate, hot-dip galvanized substrate, galvalume substrate or Zn-Al-Mg substrate. The whole production line includes continuous degreasing & cleaning, chemical conversion pretreatment, multi-layer organic coating roll coating, high temperature curing and recoiling into finished coil.
The integrated factory roll coating ensures uniform, compact coating with stable color difference, strong adhesion and superior weather resistance compared with post-spray painting. The coil can be directly bent, roll-formed and cut for deep processing, combining high mechanical strength of steel and decorative anti-corrosion organic coating.

2. Five-Layer Composite Coating Structure (From Inner to Outer)
Steel Substrate Layer: Provide mechanical strength and bending forming performance
Metallic Coating Layer (Galvanized / Galvalume / Zn-Al-Mg): Primary anti-rust barrier via sacrificial anode protection
Chemical Conversion Film: Passivation layer to improve primer adhesion and isolate chemical reaction between metal coating and paint
Primer Layer: Anti-corrosion base coat, enhance topcoat bonding, thickness 5–8μm
Topcoat Layer: Color rendering, UV resistance, scratch resistance and acid & alkali resistance; matched back coat for reverse side protection
Common Coating Structure Types
2/1 Structure: Two coats on top side, one back coat on reverse side, cost-effective, for sandwich panels and indoor workshops
2/2 Structure: Two coats on both sides, double-sided full protection, standard for outdoor roof, wall cladding and home appliances
3. Substrate Classification (Distinguished by Anti-Corrosion Performance)
3.1 PPGI Hot-Dip Galvanized Color Coil (DX51D+Z)
Zinc coating weight: Z30–Z275g/㎡ double sidesAdvantages: Cost-effective, excellent forming performance, widely used for inland factories, warehouses and fencesDisadvantages: Short service life under coastal high salt fog environment
3.2 PPGL Galvalume Color Coil (DX51D+AZ)
Alloy coating: 55% Al + 43.4% Zn + 1.6% Si, coating weight AZ50–AZ150g/㎡Advantages: Anti-corrosion service life 2–6 times longer than galvanized substrate, high temperature resistance, self-repair on cutting edges; preferred for coastal areas and photovoltaic roofs
3.3 ZM Zn-Al-Mg Substrate Color Coil (DX51D+ZM)
Ternary alloy coating, best salt spray resistance, scratch resistance and edge corrosion protection; for heavy corrosion industrial zones and seaside projects

4. Four Main Topcoat Paint Systems (Sorted by Weather Resistance)
PE Polyester CoatingTopcoat thickness 18–25μm, most cost-effective, excellent bending processability; for indoor inland use, ordinary factories & fences, outdoor service life 5–8 years.
SMP Silicon Modified PolyesterModified with silicon resin, high hardness & anti-chalking performance, better weather resistance than PE; for medium-corrosion factories and outdoor buildings, service life 8–12 years.
HDP High Durability PolyesterGreatly improved UV resistance and anti-fading property; for high-end factories, photovoltaic projects and urban public building facades, service life 12–18 years.
PVDF Polyvinylidene Fluoride CoatingTop-tier weather resistant coating with self-cleaning, acid & alkali and salt fog resistance; landmark buildings, coastal marine environment and high-end curtain walls, outdoor service life 20–30 years.
