1 Product Introduction

The Copper Tailings Thickener Plant is a fully integrated high capacity solid liquid separation facility engineered to manage and process massive volumes of copper ore waste slurries. In large scale copper flotation mills, handling fine grained tailings while recovering vast amounts of water is a major operational challenge. This specialized plant utilizes heavy duty thickener units combined with automated chemical conditioning and advanced material handling systems. By consolidating low density waste slurry into a high density paste underflow, it prepares copper tailings for safe dry stacking, paste backfilling, or pipeline transport, while simultaneously liberating clean water for immediate return to the mill.

2 Working Principle

The plant operates through a continuous process of chemical aggregation, heavy gravity compaction, and automated multi stream distribution.

  • Optimized Slurry Inflow and Flocculation: Thin copper tailings slurry from the flotation cells is directed into the central feedwells of the thickening units. At this stage, automated systems mix precise dosages of polymer flocculants into the stream. The long chain molecules bind with the fine copper mineral fragments, forming massive, fast settling aggregates.

  • Deep Bed Compression: The flocculated slurry moves into the main settling basin where gravity causes the heavy aggregates to drop rapidly to the tank floor, creating a deep compaction bed. The continuous downward pressure of newly arriving material naturally forces out the water trapped between the solid particles, maximizing the density of the bottom sludge.

  • Simultaneous Water and Solid Extraction: Clarified process water rises to the top and smoothly overflows into peripheral collection launders for immediate closed loop return to the grinding circuits. Concurrently, high torque internal rake mechanisms sweep the densified copper tailings toward the center discharge port, where heavy duty slurry pumps extract the concentrated paste for final disposal.
