1. Product Introduction
The Deep Cone Thickener (DCT) represents the pinnacle of high-density solid-liquid separation technology in the mining industry. Specifically engineered to produce paste-like underflow, the DCT features an ultra-tall tank design with a steep bottom cone angle. This unique geometry maximizes compression mud residence time, allowing operations to achieve extreme underflow densities that conventional thickeners cannot reach. It is the premier choice for paste backfill preparation, dry stack tailings management, and maximum water recovery in arid or environmentally sensitive mining regions.
2. Working Principle
The Deep Cone Thickener relies on the massive hydrostatic pressure generated by an extremely deep mud bed to squeeze water out of the solids:
Deep Bed Compaction: Slurry is mixed with optimal flocculants in the feedwell and enters the upper zone of the thickener. As the solids settle, they accumulate into an exceptionally deep mud bed (often 5 to 10 meters deep).
Compression and Dewatering: The immense weight of the overlying solids exerts tremendous hydrostatic pressure on the mud at the bottom of the steep cone (typically $30^\circ$ to $60^\circ$). This pressure forces trapped water upward through the bed, achieving a highly consolidated paste.
Shearing and Evacuation: Specialized, heavy-duty pickets attached to a high-torque rake mechanism slowly rotate through the compression zone. These pickets create pathways (channels) for escaping water to rise, while the steep cone walls guide the highly viscous paste smoothly down to the central discharge outlet.

Paste-Quality Underflow: Capable of producing a non-segregating paste underflow with a solid concentration close to its ultimate compaction limit, ideal for direct paste backfill or surface paste disposal.
Maximum Water Conservation: Recovers up to 90% or more of process water in a single step, drastically reducing the reliance on freshwater intake and lowering environmental risks associated with tailings dams.
Steep Cone Geometry: The steep floor slope ensures that highly viscous mud flows naturally toward the discharge point, eliminating the risk of mud stagnation or rat-holing.
Extreme-Torque Drive Systems: Equipped with rugged, high-torque hydraulic or planetary gear drives engineered specifically to overcome the immense yield stress and rotational resistance of dense paste beds.
Compact Footprint: Due to its vertical, deep-tank configuration, the DCT handles massive processing volumes while occupying a much smaller surface footprint compared to traditional, wide-diameter thickeners.
Advanced Rake Lift & Pickets: Features an automated rake lifting mechanism for structural protection and optimized vertical pickets that continuously break up the mud gel structure to accelerate dewatering.
