The High Efficiency Ore Thickener is an advanced, high-rate solid-liquid separation system engineered to optimize dewatering processes in modern mineral processing plants. Unlike conventional thickeners that rely solely on natural settling, this high-efficiency unit utilizes specialized deep-bed designs and optimized chemical conditioning to process vast quantities of ore slurry rapidly. It is primarily used for concentrate thickening before filtration and for pre-treatment of tailings before disposal. By producing an exceptionally dense underflow and highly clarified overflow, this equipment is crucial for maximizing plant throughput, reducing water footprint, and lowering overall operational costs.

2 Working Principle

The High Efficiency Ore Thickener operates on the principle of accelerated hindered settling and compression sedimentation

  • Dynamic Flocculation: The dilute ore slurry is first introduced into a specialized feedwell where it is dynamically mixed with high-performance flocculants. This causes the fine, suspended ore particles to agglomerate into large, heavy clusters almost instantly.

  • Deep Bed Feeding: The flocculated slurry is injected directly into the sludge blanket layer beneath the clarification zone. This "feed-into-bed" method forces the incoming material to pass through a filtering matrix of already settled solids, capturing smaller particles and preventing upward currents.

  • Compacted Sedimentation: As the heavy flocs accumulate at the bottom of the tank, the weight of the upper layers compresses the lower mud bed, squeezing out trapped interstitial water.

  • Separation and Removal: The displaced clean water rises smoothly to the surface and exits via peripheral overflow weirs for plant reuse. Meanwhile, high-torque rake arms continuously rotate to guide the highly compressed, thick ore paste toward the central discharge cone for pumping.
