1. Introduction
The 500 TPD (Tons Per Day) Rotary Kiln for Coal Gangue Calcination is a large-scale, highly efficient thermal processing system specifically engineered for the industrial utilization and activation of coal gangue (a major solid waste bypass of coal mining and processing).
By subjecting coal gangue to high-temperature calcination, this system transforms industrial waste into high-value, reactive mineral materials—such as calcined kaolin, geopolymer precursors, and active cement admixtures—achieving comprehensive solid waste recycling and circular economy goals.
2. Working Principle
The calcination of coal gangue in a rotary kiln is a continuous, counter-current heat exchange process. The operation typically consists of the following stages:
Feeding and Preheating: Raw coal gangue, crushed and screened to the required particle size, is introduced into the kiln through the feeding system at the kiln tail (the higher end of the slightly inclined, rotating cylinder). As the kiln rotates slowly, the material moves downward toward the kiln head (the lower end) due to gravity and the kiln’s inclination.
Calcination and Activation: Fuel (such as pulverized coal, natural gas, or biomass gas) is injected and burned from the kiln head, creating a high-temperature gas stream flowing in the opposite direction of the material. The gangue is dried, preheated, and enters the calcination zone where temperatures reach approximately . At this stage, residual carbon in the gangue is combusted, structural water is driven off, and the mineral phases recrystallize into highly reactive metakaolin or active oxides.
Cooling and Discharge: The calcined clinker discharges from the kiln head into a cooling system (such as a rotary cooler or grate cooler) for rapid cooling. This rapid cooling locks in the chemical activity of the material and recovers waste heat to preheat secondary combustion air.
