Log Washer Downstream Screening
Product Description
The Log Washer Downstream Screening System is an integrated wet-processing solution specifically designed for the further cleaning, dewatering, and classification of aggregates after intensive scrubbing in a Log Washer. The system typically consists of a Log Washer and a downstream screening unit. The Log Washer utilizes dual-shaft paddles to provide high-intensity attrition and scrubbing, effectively breaking down clay agglomerates, while the downstream screening equipment performs dewatering, rinsing, and size classification of the cleaned material.
This system is widely used in mining, quarrying, aggregate production, and construction & demolition (C&D) waste recycling industries. It is particularly suitable for processing materials with high clay content and difficult-to-remove impurities.
Working Principle
The operation of the system can be divided into two closely integrated stages:
1. Intensive Scrubbing (Log Washer Stage)
Raw material and water are fed into the lower end of the inclined Log Washer trough. Inside the trough, two parallel shafts equipped with heavy-duty wear-resistant paddles rotate in opposite directions. As the shafts rotate, the paddles generate intense mixing, shearing, and attrition forces that break down and remove clay, mud, and other contaminants adhered to the aggregate surfaces.
At the same time, the angled paddles convey the cleaned aggregate upward along the inclined trough until it is discharged from the upper outlet.
2. Downstream Screening Stage
The cleaned aggregate discharged from the Log Washer, together with a large volume of water, is transferred directly to the downstream screening system. The screening unit generally includes the following functions:
Lightweight Contaminant Removal and Dewatering
Lightweight contaminants such as wood chips, roots, plastics, and other floating debris rise to the water surface during the washing process. These materials overflow across a weir located at the lower end of the washer and are directed to a dewatering screen for solid-liquid separation and waste dewatering.
Aggregate Dewatering and Classification
The cleaned aggregate is fed onto a classification screen, typically a multi-deck vibrating screen. Through vibration, the material is separated into different size fractions of finished aggregate products. High-pressure spray bars can provide final rinsing, while fine sand and water passing through the screen are collected in a sump for further processing.
Key Advantages
Excellent Clay Removal Efficiency
High-intensity mechanical attrition effectively breaks down and removes stubborn clay contaminants that conventional washing equipment cannot easily handle, resulting in cleaner aggregates and improved product quality.
Integrated Processing Design
The combination of intensive scrubbing, screening, and dewatering functions in a single process line reduces plant footprint and minimizes material handling requirements.
High Flexibility
The system can process materials ranging from a few millimeters up to 80 mm in size, with capacities typically ranging from 30 to 200 TPH. Different screen configurations can be selected to produce multiple aggregate specifications.
Effective Lightweight Contaminant Separation
The overflow weir and dedicated dewatering screen efficiently remove floating contaminants such as wood, roots, and plastics, solving a common challenge in aggregate washing applications.
Heavy-Duty Construction
Designed for demanding mining and quarry environments, the system features a robust structure with reinforced shafts and wear-resistant paddles to ensure long service life and reliable operation.
