The Log Washer for Silica Sand Washing is a specialized washing and scrubbing machine designed for the purification of silica sand and quartz sand. Working Principle
The machine combines mechanical attrition, high-pressure water washing, and gravity classification to achieve efficient separation of silica sand, clay, impurities, and wastewater in a continuous automated process.
1. Attrition Scrubbing and Clay Removal
Silica sand is fed into the inclined washing trough, where rotating spiral blades continuously agitate, tumble, and rub the material. The resulting particle-to-particle attrition effectively breaks down clay agglomerates and removes mud coatings and surface contaminants from individual sand grains.
2. Hydraulic Washing and Classification
Clean water is continuously sprayed into the washing zone to thoroughly rinse the material. Due to density differences, clean silica sand particles settle while lighter clay, silt, and suspended impurities remain in the water and are separated from the product stream.
3. Clean Product Discharge
After washing, the purified silica sand is conveyed upward by the spiral blades toward the discharge outlet. Excess water is removed through the integrated dewatering section before the material is transferred to downstream screening, classification, or purification equipment.
4. Wastewater and Impurity Removal
Suspended clay, fine sludge, and lightweight contaminants are discharged through the overflow outlet together with wastewater. This process prevents secondary contamination and ensures consistent product quality.
