The ionic contamination test involves extracting surface contaminants from a product using a solvent. When ions in the solvent dissociate into cations or anions, their presence directly affects the solvent's conductivity. Given a fixed solvent concentration, the ion content directly correlates with its conductivity. Quantifying this relationship enables measurement of ionic contamination levels. IPC-™650 defines this method as the ROSE (Residual Organic Solvents) Method for Conductivity Analysis.
