Pro‑M Magnetic Flow Meter VorTek Corrosion‑Resistant Liquid Measuring Transmitter
Product Spotlights
Product Overview
The VorTek Instruments Pro-M electromagnetic flowmeter provides accurate and reliable flow measurement for liquids. Utilizing Faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction, this flowmeter delivers precise and reliable volumetric flow measurements for a wide range of conductive liquids. Unaffected by liquid temperature, pressure, density, or viscosity, this flowmeter offers measurement stability unmatched by other flow measurement technologies. Its full-bore design causes no pressure loss, and with no moving parts, it features a maintenance-free design.
The Pro-M design incorporates a variety of electrode and lining material options to provide application flexibility across various industries. Flowmeter sizes range from 1/2 inch to 80 inches in pipe diameter. For demanding applications, high-precision options achieve measurement accuracy as high as ±0.2%, meeting stringent accuracy requirements.
Pro-M flowmeters offer a variety of communication and power supply options. In addition to traditional communication methods such as analog output signals, Pro-M flowmeters also provide advanced communication options such as Modbus RTU and HART.
By adding an external temperature input, these flowmeters can provide reliable thermal energy (BTU) measurements.
Electromagnetic flowmeters utilize a phenomenon known as Faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction to measure flow. Faraday’s law states that when a conductive fluid flows through a magnetic field, it generates an electromotive force (an electrical signal). The magnitude of this electromotive force is directly proportional to the fluid’s velocity within the pipe. The faster the fluid flows, the larger the electrical signal generated.
Performance Features
Measurement results are unaffected by changes in fluid density, viscosity, temperature, pressure, or conductivity.
There are no obstructing components inside the measuring tube, resulting in no pressure loss and minimal requirements for straight pipe runs. This instrument is uniquely suited for measuring slurries.
When equipped with appropriate electrodes and lining materials, it offers excellent corrosion and wear resistance.
It employs fully digital processing, providing strong interference resistance, reliable measurements, high accuracy, and a wide flow range.
It offers multiple digital communication output options, including RS485, RS232, HART, and Modbus Profibus-DP.
It features self-test and self-diagnostic functions.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is the minimum conductivity required for the Pro‑M magnetic flow meter?
A: The minimum conductivity is 5 µS/cm. For fluids with lower conductivity, we recommend consulting our technical team for alternative solutions.Q: Can the flow meter handle solids or slurries?
A: Yes, the magnetic flow meter has no moving parts and can measure slurries containing up to 30% solid content by volume, provided the lining is selected appropriately (e.g., ceramic or polyurethane).Q: What output signals are available for integration with DCS/PLC?
A: Standard outputs include 4-20mA, pulse, and RS485 (Modbus). HART protocol is available as an option. We can also provide PROFIBUS DP or Foundation Fieldbus upon request.Q: Is the flow meter suitable for bidirectional flow measurement?
A: Yes, the Pro‑M transmitter supports bidirectional flow measurement with separate totalizers for forward and reverse flow.Q: What is the typical accuracy, and can it be calibrated on site?
A: Standard accuracy is ±0.5% of reading. An optional ±0.2% version is available for more demanding applications. The meter can be field-calibrated using a proven volumetric method or by our calibration service.Q: How do I choose the correct lining material for my chemical?
A: Please refer to our chemical compatibility chart or contact our technical support. For example, PTFE is suitable for most acids and alkalis, while PFA is recommended for high-temperature aggressive chemicals.Q: What is the warranty period?
A: We offer a standard 18-month warranty from the date of shipment. Extended warranty options are available upon request.Q: Can the meter be used for hygiene applications like food or pharmaceutical?
A: Yes, the meter can be supplied with a sanitary tri-clamp connection and FDA-approved lining materials (e.g., ceramic or PFA). Contact us for specific requirements.
