1. Product Overview

Cast pipes are hollow tubular components integrally formed via centrifugal casting, sand casting, continuous casting and other processes using pig iron, carbon steel, alloy heat-resistant steel and stainless steel as raw materials. Different from hot-rolled/cold-drawn seamless pipes and welded steel pipes, cast pipes are the preferred choice for large-diameter, thick-walled, special-shaped pipelines and equipment operating under high-temperature, wear-resistant and corrosion-resistant working conditions. They are categorized into four major types: ductile iron cast pipes, grey cast iron pipes, alloy cast steel pipes and heat-resistant centrifugal cast pipes, which are widely applied in municipal fluid transportation, high-temperature industrial furnaces, chemical anti-corrosion pipelines, mine wear-resistant conveying and other scenarios.

2. Product Classification & Material Grades

2.1 Classification by Material

  1. Ductile Iron Cast Pipe (Mainstream for Municipal Use)Grades: QT450-10, QT500-7Manufacturing Process: Rare earth magnesium spheroidizer is added to molten iron to form spherical graphite, combining the corrosion resistance of cast iron and high toughness of steel.Mechanical Properties: Tensile strength ≥420MPa, elongation ≥7%, maximum bearing pressure 6MPa, applicable to seismic zones up to magnitude 9 with excellent anti-seismic performance.

  2. Grey Cast Iron Pipe (Gravity Drainage)Grades: HT200, HT250It features flaky graphite with outstanding vibration damping and noise reduction performance at low cost, yet relatively high brittleness. Operating pressure ≤0.3MPa, only suitable for non-pressure sewage and rainwater pipelines.

  3. Ordinary Carbon Cast Steel Pipe (General Industrial Use)Grades: ZG230-450, ZG270-500Applied to low-pressure fluid pipelines, mechanical cylinder barrels, dust removal pipelines, etc.

  4. Heat-resistant Alloy Centrifugal Cast Pipe (High-temperature Working Conditions)Fe-Cr-Ni alloys: HK40, HP40, ZG40Cr25Ni20, ZG30Ni35Cr15Long-term service temperature: 800–1200℃, featuring resistance to high-temperature creep, sulfidation and carburization. Specially used for cracking furnaces and heat treatment radiant tubes.

  5. High-chromium Wear-resistant Cast Pipe (Mines & Power Plants)Cr15, Cr26 high-chromium cast iron with superior wear resistance, for conveying ash slag, ore slurry and desulfurization slurry.

  6. Cast Stainless Steel Pipe (Corrosive Medium)ZG06Cr19Ni10, ZG06Cr17Ni12Mo2, resistant to acid, alkali and seawater corrosion.

2.2 Classification by Casting Process

  1. Centrifugal Cast Pipe (High-end Mainstream)Molten metal is thrown evenly onto the pipe wall by centrifugal force under high-speed rotation of the mold, with internal slag and bubbles automatically floated and discharged. The finished product boasts dense metallographic structure, minimal shrinkage porosity and blowholes, uniform wall thickness (tolerance ≤5%) and smooth inner surface (Ra3.2–6.3). It is divided into water-cooled metal mold type and coated metal mold type, covering all specifications of cast pipes.

  2. Continuous Cast PipeLong pipes formed in one step through horizontal continuous casting, with high production efficiency and competitive unit price, mainly used for small and medium-diameter grey cast iron drainage pipes.

  3. Sand Cast PipeTraditional manufacturing technology with rough surface and many inherent defects, only adopted for secondary low-pressure pipelines and gradually phased out.

2.3 Classification by Joint Type

  • Flexible Joint: T-type, N1-type, X-type rubber sealing ring socket spigot joints, allowing 3–5° deflection and slight foundation settlement, standard configuration for municipal pipe networks.

  • Flange Joint: For high-pressure industrial pipelines and equipment connection.

  • Welded Joint: Splicing of alloy heat-resistant cast pipes for high-temperature furnaces.

3. Standard Production Process of Water-cooled Centrifugal Cast Pipes

  1. Raw Material Melting: Pig iron and scrap steel are proportioned and melted in intermediate frequency furnaces for desulfurization, deoxidation and adjustment of carbon-silicon alloy composition.

  2. Spheroidization & Alloy Modulation: Rare earth magnesium spheroidizer is added for cast iron pipes; chromium, nickel, molybdenum elements are supplemented for alloy pipes to adjust chemical composition.

  3. Centrifugal Pouring: The pipe mold rotates uniformly at 500–1500r/min for quantitative pouring, followed by rapid solidification and forming via water cooling.

  4. Annealing Heat Treatment: Eliminate internal casting stress, convert white cast iron structure to ductile ferrite to improve elongation and impact resistance.

  5. Internal & External Anti-corrosion Treatment

  • Outer Wall: Zinc spraying + asphalt paint / coal tar epoxy coating

  • Inner Wall: Cement mortar lining for municipal water supply pipes, epoxy resin coating for chemical pipes, passivation treatment for high-temperature alloy pipes

  • Finishing & Inspection: Pipe end grinding, dimension calibration, hydrostatic test, non-destructive testing

  • Marking, Protection & Warehousing

  • 4. Core Product Advantages

    1. High Pressure Resistance & Seismic Performance: Ductile cast pipes feature excellent toughness, resisting fracture under uneven foundation settlement and earthquakes without leakage via flexible joints.

    2. Smooth Inner Wall: Fluid resistance is 30% lower than concrete pipes, effectively preventing scaling and blockage to reduce transportation energy consumption.

    3. Ultra-long Service Life: Underground service life reaches 50–100 years with intact anti-corrosion coating; 100% recyclable and eco-friendly.

    4. High Temperature & Wear Resistance: Alloy centrifugal cast pipes can serve stably above 1000℃ long-term; high-chromium materials deliver far better wear resistance than ordinary steel pipes.

    5. Superior Forming Performance for Large Diameters: Complete specifications DN80–DN2600 available; integrated casting of extra thick-walled pipes, special-shaped tees and elbows reduces hidden dangers caused by welding seams.

    6. Convenient Installation: Socket spigot flexible joints require no on-site welding for fast construction and low subsequent maintenance cost.

    5. Domestic & International Executive Standards

    1. Ductile iron water supply pipes: GB/T13295-2019, ISO2531, EN545
