Co:MgAl2O4 Q-switching Crystal
Product Spotlights
Introduction:
Cobalt doped magnesium aluminate spinel crystal, abbreviated as cobalt spinel, has a chemical formula of
Co: MgAl2O4. Co2+ions replace the tetrahedral coordinated Mg2+ions in the lattice of MgAl2O4 crystal, resulting
in a wide absorption band in the wavelength range of 1200-1600nm. Cobalt spinel is a saturable absorption
material and is therefore commonly used as a passive Q-switch in solid-state lasers in this band. It has advantages
such as absorption bandwidth, long service life, and good stability.
It is a comprehensive and excellent passive Q-switching crystal material.
The laser radiation in the 1.5 μm-band poses minimal harm to the human eyes and is located in the transmission
window of the atmosphere. Therefore, lasers in this band are widely used in fields such as laser ranging, LiDAR, and
environmental sensing, and have received widespread attention. The absorption bandwidth of cobalt spinel can
effectively cover this band ,So the crystals are widely used as Q-switches of the human eye safety laser with 1.5μm
wavelength to achieve low repetition rate and high pulse energy laser output. In recent years, with the development
of photoresist technology and high-temperature bonding technology, cobalt spinel can achieve heterogeneous
bonding with laser gain medium, making optical system components more compact, stable, and low-cost, effectively promoting the lightweight and miniaturization of lasers.
