                                                                                          Introduction:

Bismuth germanate crystal (chemical formula: Bi₁₂GeO₂₀, abbreviated as BGO) is a colorless,

transparent, nonpolar oxide crystal with a cubic structure. When excited by high-energy particles or

high-energy radiation (X-rays, γ-rays), it emits broad-peak green fluorescence with a peak wavelength

of 480 nm. It offers advantages such as high density, high energy resolution, large refractive index,

excellent non-hygroscopicity, stable physical and chemical properties, and high mechanical strength.

These characteristics make it an ideal material for applications in high-energy physics, nuclear physics,

space physics, nuclear medicine, and geological detection. It has been extensively used in the

positron-electron collider at CERN and the dark matter particle detection satellite "Wukong."

BGO crystals exhibit third-order and fifth-order nonlinear absorption responses in the visible and infrared

bands, respectively. Due to its large nonlinear coefficient, BGO crystals possess unparalleled performance

compared to traditional nonlinear optical crystals. Furthermore, as a typical photorefractive crystal, BGO

finds extensive applications in optoelectronics and laser physics, such as four-wave mixing and optical switching.
