Product Spotlights
Overview of Centrifugal Spray Dryer:
The centrifugal spray dryer is the core equipment in modern industry for efficiently converting liquid materials into high-quality powders. Its working principle is that through a high-speed rotating centrifugal atomizer, the liquid raw material is instantly scattered and stretched to form a fine mist net. At the same time, hot air is precisely introduced into the drying tower and comes into efficient co-current or counter-current contact with the mist droplets, so that the moisture evaporates rapidly within a few seconds, and finally a uniform and dry powder product is obtained.
The essence of this process lies in "instant drying". The extremely high heat and mass transfer efficiency enables even heat-sensitive substances (such as proteins, probiotics or natural extracts) to be dehydrated at a relatively low temperature, thus maximally retaining their active ingredients and natural properties. By precisely adjusting the atomizer rotation speed, inlet air temperature and air flow mode, the operator can flexibly control the particle size, moisture content, solubility and fluidity of the finished powder to meet the strict requirements of many fields, from food milk powder, pharmaceutical raw materials to high-end ceramic powders and nanomaterials.
Therefore, the centrifugal spray dryer is not only a drying technology, but also a precise powder manufacturing system. It realizes an elegant transformation from "liquid" to "powder" in an efficient, continuous and controllable industrial way, and is an indispensable key link in the modern production line that pursues product quality and process efficiency.

Application of Spray Dryer in Fermentation Broth Drying Process:
Spray drying converts liquid fermentation products (bacteria, metabolites, enzymes, etc.) into stable powders in one step, and is mainly applied to the following types of products:
Microbial Preparations (Bacterial Powders)
Probiotics: This is the most classic application. The fermentation broth of probiotics such as lactic acid bacteria and bifidobacteria is centrifugally concentrated and then mixed with protective agents (such as skim milk powder, oligosaccharides, trehalose) for spray drying. Despite the thermal damage, high-viability bacterial powders can be obtained by optimizing the process (such as low temperature and high air volume, using vitrified matrix) and are used in food, health products and animal feed.
Industrial Bacterial Agents: Such as nitrogen-fixing bacteria for agriculture, phosphorus-solubilizing bacteria, sewage treatment bacterial agents, etc. For these products, there are certain requirements for the viable bacteria rate, but cost and output are the key. Spray drying can produce solid bacterial agents that are easy to store, transport and use at a relatively low cost.
Enzyme preparations
Industrial enzymes produced by fermentation (such as amylase, protease, cellulase) can be directly spray-dried into enzyme powder after preliminary filtration or ultrafiltration concentration. During the drying process, the enzyme activity will be partially lost. However, by adding stabilizers (such as salts, polyhydroxy compounds) and controlling a lower outlet air temperature, the enzyme activity can be maintained to the greatest extent. The obtained enzyme powder has good stability and is convenient to use.
Microbial metabolites
Antibiotics: The fermentation broths of some antibiotics (such as streptomycin, bacitracin) that are relatively heat-stable can be spray-dried after pretreatment and used as crude products or feed additives.
Organic acids (such as citric acid, lactic acid): After removing the bacterial cells from the fermentation broth, it can be made into a convenient powder form by spray drying.
Biopolymers (such as xanthan gum, gellan gum): After the fermentation broth is recovered by alcohol precipitation, spray drying is the final step to obtain standard commercial powder products.
Yeast extract/feed yeast: After the yeast fermentation broth is inactivated and autolyzed, spray drying is a key process for producing high-value condiments or feed protein powder.
Fermented whole broth products
In some fields of feed additives, in order to fully retain all the nutrients in the fermentation broth (including bacterial cells, unconsumed medium, and metabolites), after adsorption by carriers (such as using bran, corncob powder, etc. to adsorb the fermentation broth), spray drying is carried out to produce compound microbial feed additives.
Advantages of spray dryers in the fermentation broth drying process:
One-step molding and simplified process: Directly obtain dry powder from liquid fermentation products, eliminating multiple traditional processes such as plate-and-frame filtration, vacuum concentration, vacuum drying, or freeze drying, and greatly shortening the production cycle.
Continuous and large-scale production capacity: It is very suitable for connecting with the upstream continuous fermentation process to achieve continuous production from fermentation to finished products. It has high production capacity and is suitable for large-scale industrial manufacturing.
Excellent product properties: The obtained powder usually has uniform particle size, good fluidity and excellent solubility, which facilitates subsequent mixing, packaging and use.
Conducive to storage and transportation: The powder product has a low moisture content. Its chemical and biological stability is much higher than that of liquids, which extends the shelf life and significantly reduces the storage and transportation costs.
