I.Overview
The silicon-based irradiance sensor is a low-cost, high-reliability sensor developed by Jinzhou Sunshine Meteorological Technology Co., Ltd. specifically for the photovoltaic power generation industry, in accordance with the characteristics of solar panels. The sensor itself adopts a silicon-based structure that is highly similar to that of solar panels, making it an ideal reference system. In particular, its spectral response and tilt error are extremely close to those of solar panels, which provides a solid basis for using silicon-based sensors to accurately analyze the irradiance data of solar panels.
II.Principle
A silicon-based solar cell can serve as an irradiance sensor because its short-circuit current is proportional to irradiance. The monocrystalline silicon solar cells used in our sensor are connected in parallel. Thanks to the low resistance of the parallel connection, the operating current is almost identical to the short-circuit current. To minimize the impact of temperature on the measurement signal, a temperature sensor is integrated for data compensation. Mounted on the back of the solar panel, the temperature sensor delivers a reading that is approximately equivalent to the module temperature.

IV.Structural Composition
Monocrystalline silicon solar cells are embedded in ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA), and the laminated cells are integrated into a small aluminium-coated casing. The sensor is therefore highly similar in structure to standard photovoltaic (PV) modules. The cable interface is an IP67 waterproof connector. The mounting bracket features an adjustable angle, which only needs to be aligned with that of the PV module for operation.
