Product Description
What is the difference between KC and KCC certifications in South Korea?
According to Article 33 of the Basic Act on Electrical Communications and Articles 46 and 57 of the Radio Waves Act, a certification system for broadcasting and communications equipment has been established. This system requires that all products specified in Article 3 of the Broadcasting and Communications Equipment Certification Regulations must obtain KCC certification before they are manufactured, imported, or sold.
The KCC mark evolved from the MIC mark. As the Korea Communications Commission (KCC) replaced the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC), the certification name changed accordingly. The KCC took effect on November 11, 2008, and will evolve to the KC mark on January 1, 2011.
The KCC addresses electromagnetic compatibility requirements for information products and regulates the certification of wireless transmission and communications products. These products include electrical communications equipment, radio frequency products, and information technology equipment.
The KCC mark is a certification mark issued by the Korea Radio Research Agency (RRA) of the Korea Communications Commission.
KC Certification:
To provide consumers with a clearer understanding of the certification marks displayed on their products and reduce the various certification costs borne by manufacturers, the Korea Agency for Technology and Standards (KATS) announced on August 20, 2008, that it would implement a new certification system, KC (Korea Certification), starting January 1, 2009. The program will be implemented first within the Ministry of Knowledge Economy in July 2009 and will be expanded to all sectors by the end of 2010. The KC mark implementation schedule is as follows: December 2008: Amendment of the Basic Act on National Standards and its implementing decree; July 2009: Implementation and adoption of the nationally unified KC mark by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy; January 2009-December 2010: Amendment of laws related to standards certification; January 2011: Application of the KC mark to all certification programs.
The difference between Korean KC and KCC certifications:
KCC is an EMC certification, while KC is a safety certification. KCC is an older name. Starting January 1, 2011, the original Korean KCC logo will be uniformly converted to KC. Therefore, KCC and KC certifications use the same certification logo; the only difference is that the KCC certification logo will have a KCC ID number underneath.
