Test standards for IPX3 and IPX4

IPX3 (protection against drenching)


Test Requirements:

Water shower (e.g. pendulum pipe or handheld nozzle) from a range of 60° from vertical for a minimum of 5 minutes with a water volume of 10 L/min.


Application Scenario: Simulation of moderate rain or spraying environment.


IPX4 (splash-proof)


Test Requirement:

Water splashing onto the surface of the device from all directions (e.g. 360° pendulum tube) with a volume of 10 L/min for at least 10 minutes.


Application Scenario: Simulate heavy rain or multi-directional splashing environment.


Design features of the IPX34 tester

Multi-functional sprinkler system


Pendulum design:


IPX3 mode: Pendulum angle is 60°, simulating vertical direction spraying.


IPX4 mode: Pendulum angle extended to 180° or 360° to cover multi-directional splashing.


Nozzle Configuration:


Standard orifice nozzles are used (e.g. 0.4mm orifice for IPX3, 0.5mm orifice for IPX4) to ensure that water velocity and coverage are in line with standards.


Control System.


Switchable between IPX3 and IPX4 test modes, automatically adjusts pendulum angle, spray time and water flow rate.


Equipped with flow meter, pressure gauge and timer to ensure precise control of parameters (e.g. flow rate 10 L/min ±5%).


Structural design


Material: stainless steel or anti-corrosion material, resistant to long-term water corrosion.


Observation Window: Transparent tempered glass for real-time monitoring of the test process.


Sample stage: rotatable or fixed installation, adaptable to different sizes of test samples.


Water Circulation System


Built-in water tank and filtration device to recycle test water and save resources.


Equipped with drainage system to prevent water accumulation in the test chamber.


Example of test flow

IPX3 mode:


The sample is fixed in the test chamber and the pendulum is adjusted to 60°.


Spray the sample at a flow rate of 10 L/min for 5 minutes.


IPX4 mode:


The pendulum is adjusted to 180° or 360° to cover the omnidirectional sputtering.


Spray the sample at the same flow rate for 10 minutes.


Selection Key Parameters

Shower range: Pendulum radius (e.g. R200mm, R400mm) needs to match the sample size.
