Standard Introduction: This British Standard describes methods of test for the ignitability of bedcovers and pillows when subjects to smouldering and flaming types of ignition sources of differing severities.
The standard is divided into three tests:
Test1: Pillows and continental quilts
Test specimens: For pillows,the test specimen shall be a full sized item;
For continental quilts,the test specimen shall be of
minimum size 650mm×650mm
Test procedures: a.Smouldering cigarette test--ignition source0;
b.Butane flame tests:ignition source 1 to 3;
c.Wooden crib tests--ignition sources 4 to 7;
Test2: Individual bedcovers(including mattress cases and covers,sheets,pillowslips,blankets,bedspreads and continental quilt covers)tested with smouldering and flaming ignition source)
Test specimens: a.for cigarette ignition source:0.450mm×1350mm minimum;
b.for flaming ignition source1 to7:650mm×650mm minimum;
Test Procedure: Same as Test 1
Test3: Composite of know bedcovers and pillows tested with smouldering and flaming ignition source.
Test specimens: The test specimens shall be rectangular in shape and of minimum size 650mm×650mm.
Test Procedure: Same as Test 1
