1. Product Overview
Silicon steel, also known as electrical steel, is a low-carbon soft magnetic alloy steel with a silicon content ranging from 0.5% to 4.8%. It features low core loss, high magnetic induction, low hysteresis loss and stable electromagnetic performance, serving as an indispensable core magnetic material in the power, electrical and new energy industries. The addition of silicon element increases the resistivity of steel and reduces eddy current loss. Meanwhile, it possesses excellent stamping, shearing and stacking machinability. Primarily used for manufacturing iron cores of various motors, transformers, reactors, transformers and generators, it directly determines the energy consumption, efficiency and operational stability of electrical equipment, and is widely applicable to power frequency, variable frequency and other electromagnetic working scenarios.
Cold-rolled silicon steel dominates the current market and has completely replaced traditional hot-rolled silicon steel. According to grain orientation characteristics, it is divided into two major categories: non-oriented silicon steel and grain-oriented silicon steel. It complies with the national standard GB/T 2521-2021 and is compatible with international standards such as IEC, ASTM and JIS.

2.1 Cold-Rolled Non-Oriented Silicon Steel
With randomly arranged grains and isotropic electromagnetic properties, it delivers consistent magnetic performance in all directions. It is suitable for rotating electrical equipment with continuously changing magnetic field directions, acting as the core material for motors and generators, and is the most widely used type of silicon steel in the market.
Common Thickness: 0.20mm, 0.27mm, 0.30mm, 0.35mm, 0.50mm (mainstream industrial standard sizes)
Grade Naming Rule: Thickness + W + Core Loss Value. Example: 50W470 (0.5mm thickness, core loss ≤ 4.70W/kg under 50Hz and 1.5T conditions)
Performance Features: Uniform magnetic permeability, excellent blanking performance, high stacking factor, low noise and moderate loss

2.2 Cold-Rolled Grain-Oriented Silicon Steel
Grains are regularly oriented along the rolling direction, achieving ultra-low core loss and high magnetic induction in the rolling direction, while showing weaker performance in the vertical direction. It is exclusively designed for static high-voltage power transmission and transformation equipment with unidirectional alternating magnetic fields.
Common Thickness: 0.23mm, 0.27mm, 0.30mm, 0.35mm (special thin sizes for high-voltage power industry)
Grade Naming Rule: Thickness + Q + Core Loss Value. Example: 30Q120 (0.3mm thickness, core loss ≤ 1.20W/kg under standard working conditions)
Performance Features: Ultra-low no-load loss, high magnetic saturation strength, remarkable energy-saving effect and superior electromagnetic stability
Application Scenarios: State Grid transformers, distribution transformers, high-voltage reactors, instrument transformers, large-scale power transmission and transformation equipment, energy storage transformers
2.3 Hot-Rolled Silicon Steel (Obsolete / Niche Spare Material)
Featuring outdated production technology, poor surface accuracy, high core loss and unstable performance, hot-rolled silicon steel has been basically phased out in domestic power and motor industries. It is only used for maintenance and replacement of low-end obsolete equipment with no value for mass production and commercial application.

4.1 Key Electromagnetic Properties
Core Loss: The core evaluation indicator. A lower value means lower equipment heat generation, lower energy consumption and better energy-saving effect, serving as the primary basis for silicon steel grade classification.
Magnetic Induction: A higher value indicates stronger magnetic conductivity of the iron core, which can reduce equipment volume and weight and improve power density.
Stacking Factor: ≥0.95 for high-end products. The flat and uniform-thickness sheets minimize lamination gaps, effectively improving iron core filling rate and equipment efficiency.
4.2 Dimensional Accuracy & Surface Quality
Thickness tolerance: Within ±0.02mm with uniform thickness across the entire coil without thickness deviation
Standard width: 1000mm, 1200mm, 1250mm; custom slitting of any narrow width is available
Surface condition: Uniform and dense insulating coating without peeling, scratches, oxide scales or warping. Excellent insulation performance effectively prevents eddy current short circuit between laminations.
4.3 Mechanical Machinability
The material features moderate hardness and good toughness without brittle cracking. It supports high-speed blanking, shearing, bending and lamination processing, with small blank burrs and high flatness. It adapts to automated assembly line mass production and greatly improves iron core processing efficiency.
4.4 Applicable Standards
National Standard: GB/T 2521-2021 Cold Rolled Electrical Steel Strip and Sheet; International Standards: IEC 60404, ASTM A677, JIS C2552. All products are supplied with original mill test reports, electromagnetic performance test reports and third-party SGS inspection reports.

The professional electrical insulating coatings on silicon steel balance insulation, heat resistance, adhesion and stamping performance, mainly divided into three types:
