1. Product Overview

Silicon steel, also known as electrical steel, is a low-carbon soft magnetic silicon-iron alloy with silicon content ranging from 0.5% to 4.8% and carbon content ≤0.08%. It serves as the core magnetic material for iron cores of electric motors, transformers, reactors and generators. Silicon element can greatly boost the resistivity of steel and reduce eddy current loss. It features high magnetic permeability, low coercive force, low hysteresis loss and stable electromagnetic performance, together with excellent punching and lamination processability. Its quality directly determines the energy consumption, volume and operating efficiency of electrical equipment.

2. Classification by Production Process, Specifications & Parameters

2.1 Cold Rolled Non-Oriented Silicon Steel (CRNGO, for Motors)

Applicable Standards: GB/T2521, ASTM A677, JIS C2552, IEC60404-8-4

  1. Process Features: Randomly distributed crystal grains with uniform magnetic properties in all 360° directions, suitable for rotating alternating magnetic fields; divided into fully-processed and semi-processed types.

  2. Standard Thickness: 0.35mm, 0.50mm, 0.65mm; customized ultra-thin thickness from 0.20mm to 0.30mm.

  3. Coil Width: 800–1250mm, can be slit into narrow strips above 20mm as required.

  4. Single Coil Weight: 100kg–5000kg, custom coil weight available.

  5. Representative Grades: 35WW230, 35WW300, 50WW470, 50WW600, 65WW1300, B35A440, B50A600

  6. Optional Surface Insulating Coatings

  • A/H semi-organic coating: Good stamping performance, high interlayer insulation, applicable for neutral annealing.

  • K/Z chrome-free eco-friendly coating: Compliant with RoHS standard, free of hexavalent chromium pollution, excellent welding performance.

  • D inorganic coating: High temperature resistance and good weldability.

2.2 Cold Rolled Grain Oriented Silicon Steel (CRGO, for Transformers)

Applicable Standards: GB/T2521, ASTM A876, JIS C2553, IEC60404-8-7

  1. Process Features: Secondary recrystallization high-temperature annealing. Crystal grains are arranged in ordered Goss texture along the rolling direction, featuring ultra-high magnetic permeability and ultra-low core loss in rolling direction with superior unidirectional magnetic flux performance. It includes conventional grain oriented steel and high permeability HiB domain refined grain oriented silicon steel.

  2. Standard Thickness: 0.23mm, 0.27mm, 0.30mm, 0.35mm

  3. Coil Width: 800–1200mm, can be cut into fixed-size sheets by cross cutting.

  4. Representative Grades: 23QG085, 27QG100, 30Q120, 30Q130, B23R85

  5. Coatings: T4 heavy insulating coating and chrome-free eco-friendly coating with high interlayer resistance to reduce iron core eddy current loss.

  6. Applications: Power distribution transformers, large power transmission main transformers, reactors, instrument transformers, regulated power supplies.

2.3 Hot Rolled Silicon Steel (Traditional Type, Gradually Replaced)

Thickness ranges from 0.35mm to 1.0mm with surface oxide scale, ordinary magnetic performance and low cost. It is only applied for small old-fashioned power frequency electrical appliances, and mostly replaced by cold rolled silicon steel at present.

3. Grade Naming Rules

  1. Non-oriented silicon steel: Thickness code + WW/A + Core loss valueExample: 50WW470 — 0.5mm thick non-oriented silicon steel, maximum core loss 4.7W/kg under 50Hz.

  2. Grain oriented silicon steel: Thickness code + Q/QG + Core loss valueExample: 30QG120 — 0.30mm thick high permeability grain oriented silicon steel, core loss 1.20W/kg.

4. Core Electromagnetic & Mechanical Performance Indicators

  1. Core Loss (P1.7/50, working condition: 50Hz, 1.7T)

  • High-efficiency non-oriented grade: 2.3–4.0W/kg; ordinary motor grade: 4.7–13W/kg

  • HiB grain oriented steel: 0.85–1.35W/kg, greatly reduced no-load loss

  1. Magnetic Induction B800: Non-oriented steel ≥1.62T; grain oriented steel ≥1.88T

  2. Stacking Factor: 0.94–0.97, uniform coating without affecting stacking density

  3. Mechanical Properties: Non-oriented steel features good plasticity, not easy to crack after repeated bending; grain oriented steel is relatively brittle, prone to powder shedding and cracking after multiple bends.

  4. Surface Quality: Flat sheet without warpage, scratches or holes, uniform and non-peeling insulating coating.

5. Auxiliary Processing Services

  1. Slitting Service: Coils cut into narrow steel strips with tiny burrs, dimensional tolerance ±0.1mm.

  2. Cross Cutting for Fixed Size: Square and trapezoidal iron core sheets cut according to customer requirements.

  3. Punching OEM Service: Custom stamping of standard stator and rotor iron cores with matched molds.

  4. Annealing Service: Annealing of semi-processed silicon steel to optimize magnetic properties.

6. Packaging, Delivery & Foreign Trade Terms

6.1 Export Moisture-Proof Packaging

  • Silicon steel coils: Inner rust-proof kraft paper + VCI anti-rust film, outer steel angle protection, fastened by steel strips and fixed on fumigated solid wood pallets, moisture-proof and collision-proof for sea transportation.

  • Cut sheets: Separated by layers of anti-rust paper, bundled tightly with steel strips and stacked on wooden pallets.

  • Label attached to each coil/pallet including grade, thickness, net weight, coil number, applicable standard, core loss parameters and heat batch number.

6.2 Delivery Lead Time

Standard in-stock thickness with regular coating: Shipment within 5–7 days.Ultra-thin gauge, special eco-friendly coating and custom cutting size: 7–15 days.

6.3 Shipping Ports

Tianjin Port and Qingdao Port. Full container (40GP/40HC) and LCL shipments available. Complete documents provided: material test certificate, English inspection report, packing list and commercial invoice. Certificate of origin under FTA free trade agreement can be issued.

6.4 Payment Terms

30% TT advance payment, balance settled before shipment. Letter of Credit (LC) is not acceptable.Minimum order quantity: 1 ton, mixed loading of multiple grades is supported.
