1. Product Overview

Channel steel, also named U-beam or C-section steel, features a U-shaped cross-section composed of one vertical web and two inclined flanges. It is a key hot-rolled structural section produced from qualified continuous casting billets through high-temperature rough rolling, finish rolling, straightening and cut-to-length sawing. It possesses excellent bending and shear resistance, and is easy to cut, weld, drill and assemble. Widely used for factory steel structures, equipment bases, support frames, curtain wall keels, vehicle chassis and bridge auxiliary components.

Three mainstream types are available: hot rolled standard channel, hot rolled light channel and cold formed thin-wall C channel. It complies with Chinese National Standard GB/T 707-2019, and international trade standards including ASTM A36, EN 10025, JIS G3192.

2. Product Classification

2.1 Hot Rolled Standard Channel Steel (Main Grade for Heavy Load)

Standard sizes: #5, #6.3, #8, #10, #12.6, 14#a/b, 16#a/b, 18#a/b, 20#a/b, 25#a/b/c, 30#a/b/c, 40#a/b/c

  • Section dimension: Height h=50~400mm, flange width b=37~140mm, web thickness d=4.5~14.5mm

  • Standard length: 6m / 9m / 12m; customized fixed length 3–19m available

  • Features: Flanges with standard inner taper, high bearing capacity and strong rigidity

  • Applications: Main beams of workshops, platform supports, heavy machinery bases, bridge bracings, large structural columns

2.2 Hot Rolled Light Channel Steel (Lightweight Secondary Structure)

Thinner web and narrower flanges with lower self-weight under the same height Common sizes: 6.5#, 8#, 10#, 12#, 14#, 16#, 20# light series

  • Features: Good plasticity, light weight and cost-saving

  • Applications: Roof purlins, simple storage racks, indoor equipment supports, secondary curtain wall keels

2.3 Cold Formed Thin-Wall C Channel (PV & Light Decoration)

Room-temperature cold bending from steel strip, ultra-thin wall, smooth bright surface, pre-drilled mounting holes optional

  • Sizes: C41×21, C50×30, C80×40 and other thin-wall profiles

  • Applications: PV mounting brackets, cable trays, greenhouse frames, light partition frames

3. Material Grades & International Equivalents

  1. Mild Carbon Steel Q235BEquivalent to S235JR, ASTM A36, SS400, STKR400; easy welding, cost-effective, the first choice for general indoor & outdoor structures

  2. Low Alloy High Strength Steel Q355B/C/D/EEquivalent to S355JR, ASTM A572 Gr50; high yield strength, excellent low-temperature impact toughness, suitable for wind & snow load buildings and bridge projects in cold regions

  3. Q195 / Q215: For light decoration and simple supports

4. Dimensional, Weight & Quality Standards

4.1 Dimensional Tolerance

Height tolerance ±1.5~3.0mm, flange width ±0.8~2.0mm, camber ≤1.5mm per meter, twist ≤0.5mm per meter, overall weight deviation within ±3%.

4.2 Surface Quality

Original hot rolled black oxide finish; free of cracks, scabs, delamination, inclusions and folds. Shot blasting, pickling and hot-dip galvanizing can be processed upon request.

4.3 Mechanical Inspection

Tensile, bending and normal temperature impact tests for each batch. For Q235B: Yield strength ≥235MPa, tensile strength 375–500MPa, elongation after fracture ≥26%.

4.4 Supporting Inspection Documents

Original Mill Test Certificate (MTC), mechanical property report; SGS third-party inspection and CE certification can be provided for customs clearance and customer re-inspection.

5. Optional Surface Treatments

  1. As-hot-rolled black finish with anti-rust oil: Original factory state, lowest cost for indoor steel structures

  2. Hot-dip galvanized channel steel: Zinc coating 40–600g/㎡, ideal for coastal areas, outdoor PV brackets and anti-corrosion projects

  3. Paint, epoxy zinc-rich coating: For decoration and anti-corrosion protection

  4. Shot blasting rust removal: Pre-treatment before welding to improve coating adhesion

7. Packaging, Delivery & Foreign Trade Terms

7.1 Packaging Methods

  • Domestic Shipment: Bundled with steel strips, 1–5 tons per bundle; both ends marked with size & grade paint.

  • Sea Export Shipment: Coated with anti-rust oil, wrapped by rust-proof paper + waterproof plastic film, fixed on wooden pallets with edge protectors to avoid collision damage, compatible with mixed loading in 40GP / 40HC containers.

7.2 Delivery Lead Time

Standard in-stock hot rolled channel steel: 5–7 working days; customized hot-dip galvanized, extra-large & light series: 7–15 working days.

7.3 MOQ & Payment Terms

Minimum order quantity: 5 tons; 30% TT advance payment, balance remitted against copy of Bill of Lading; Letter of Credit (LC) is not accepted.

7.4 Quality Warranty

Batch inspection on dimension, surface and mechanical properties before delivery; 6-month quality warranty, free return & replacement for unqualified material, dimension and internal defects under non-human damage conditions.
