1. Product Overview
Steel billet is semi-finished steel formed by continuous casting or forging of molten steel, serving as the upstream raw material for rolling round bars, profiles, steel plates and wire rods. It features dense internal structure and uniform chemical composition, which can be further processed into finished steel via hot rolling and forging. The chemical composition, dimensional accuracy and internal quality of steel billets directly determine the performance and yield rate of downstream finished products. It is widely used in steel deep processing, steel structure, machinery manufacturing, construction and pipe production industries.
2. Main Types & Technical Parameters
2.1 Continuous Cast Square Billet (Most Popular)
Applicable Standards: GB/T 20112, EN 10160, ASTM A615
Section Sizes: 100×100mm, 120×120mm, 130×130mm, 150×150mm, 160×160mm, 180×180mm, 200×200mm
Standard Length: 6m, 9m, 12m; custom non-standard lengths available
Production Process: Refining in steelmaking furnace → continuous casting → flame cutting to fixed length
Surface Condition: Slight oxide scale, free of severe cracks, scabs and delamination
Applications: Rolling deformed steel bars, round bars, small square tubes, angle steel and channel steel
2.2 Continuous Cast Rectangular Billet
Section Sizes: 160×220mm, 180×240mm, 200×300mm, 250×350mm
Features: Large width-thickness ratio, suitable for rolling medium & heavy plates, wide steel coils and H-beams
Applications: Steel structure workshops, bridge plates, construction machinery plates, raw material for shipbuilding plates
2.3 Continuous Cast Slab
Thickness: 150mm–300mm; Width: 800–1600mm; Length: 6–12m
Usage: Special blank for hot rolled coils, cold rolled coils, checkered plates, vessel plates and pipeline steel plates
2.4 Round Billet (Special for Pipe Rolling)
Diameter Range: Φ80mm–Φ600mm
Advantages: Circular cross-section, exclusive for seamless pipe rolling, avoids eccentric rolling defects
Applications: Fluid transmission steel pipes, high-pressure boiler tubes, oil casings, hydraulic cylinder tubes
2.5 Forged Steel Billet (High-Grade Heavy-Duty Material)
Process: High-temperature forging of ingots to eliminate internal looseness and segregation with higher compactness
Applications: Large forged round bars, wind power main shafts, pressure vessel forgings, high-strength alloy components

4. Core Quality Indicators
Chemical CompositionStrict control of C, Si, Mn, S, P; low content of harmful impurities sulfur and phosphorus to guarantee stable performance in welding, forging and rolling.
Internal QualityFree of central looseness, shrinkage cavity, slag inclusion and internal cracks; UT ultrasonic testing reports available for high-end alloy billets.
Dimensional ToleranceTolerance of side length / diameter: ±2~±5mm; length tolerance: 0~+100mm, flat cutting surface without tilt.
Surface QualityDeep cracks, air holes, scratches and scabs are prohibited; slight oxide scale will not affect subsequent rolling.
MacrostructureQualified central segregation grade, no visible inclusion or delamination to avoid cracking during deep processing.
5. Machining Performance
Hot Working: Excellent plasticity for high-temperature hot rolling, forging and pipe piercing without cracking;
Cutting: Support flame cutting, saw cutting and plasma cutting;
Heat Treatment: Direct normalizing, annealing, quenching & tempering, carburizing without secondary refining.
6. Packaging, Delivery & Foreign Trade Terms
Packaging
Square / round billets: Bundled and fixed with steel strips; specifications, material grade and heat number sprayed on ends;
Export cargo: Moisture-proof wooden pallets at bottom, anti-rust paper between billets, overall wrapped with moisture-proof film to prevent rust during sea transportation.
Delivery Lead TimeStandard in-stock carbon steel billets: Shipment within 5–7 days; alloy billets, forged billets and customized special sizes: 7–15 days.
Shipping PortsTianjin Port, Qingdao Port. Full container 40GP/40HC and LCL shipments available. Complete documents supplied: Material Test Certificate, English Inspection Report, Packing List, Commercial Invoice; FTA Certificate of Origin can be issued.
Payment Terms30% TT advance payment, balance settled before shipment. Letter of Credit (LC) is not acceptable.Minimum order quantity: 10 tons, mixed loading of multiple materials & sizes supported.
