The current efficiency of the magnesium anode is about 50%, and it may be even lower due to environmental influences. When the salt content in the soil or water is low, the current output is small, so its self-corrosion is relatively large. When the soil resistivity is high, the anode output current is small, and the anode surface is prone to passivation, which further increases the grounding resistance and reduces the anode output current. At this time, there may be no obvious change in the open-circuit potential of the anode or the pipeline potential measured at the energized point. When the temperature rises, the self-corrosion intensifies and the efficiency decreases. Therefore, in saltwater or brine, the operating temperature should not exceed 32°C; in freshwater, it should not exceed 45°C. In seawater, its service life is very short and it is not suitable for use.
