The WOODWARD 9905-864 steam turbine controller is a high-performance digital controller belonging to the Peak 150 series, with various functions and excellent characteristics. The detailed introduction is as follows:


Basic Parameters:


  • Power Type: AC/DC, input voltage is 90 - 150 VDC or 88 - 132 VAC (47 - 63 Hz).

  • Shell Protection Class: NEMA 4X, featuring waterproof and dustproof capabilities, and can be used in corrosive environments.

Input and Output Interfaces:


  • Inputs: There are 8 discrete contact inputs, including start, speed up, speed down, trip, reset, idle, remote speed enable, and overspeed test, etc., selected by connecting a 5 - 28 VDC power supply. In addition, there are 2 magnetic pickup inputs with a minimum input voltage of 1 VRMS, a minimum frequency of 200 Hz, and a maximum frequency of 15 kHz; 1 analog input for remote speed setting signal (4 - 20 mA or 1 - 5 VDC, internal jumper selectable).

  • Outputs: There are 2 analog outputs, which can provide actual speed output (scalable, 4 - 20/0 - 1 mA) and configurable readings (scalable, 4 - 20/0 - 1 mA); there are also 4 relay outputs.


Functional Features:


  • Speed Control: It has dual speed control dynamic characteristics and an overspeed trip test function, which can precisely control the turbine speed. There is a default critical speed band of 1500 to 1800 rpm, which can also be customized by the user. When the turbine operates within this speed band, the controller will quickly change the speed to protect the turbine from excessive vibration.

  • Status Monitoring and Display: The front panel is equipped with 6 switches and LED indicators, which can display the status of 2 magnetic pickups, overspeed test, remote speed setting signal, and shutdown, etc., facilitating operators to quickly read system information and interact.

  • Programming and Configuration: Settings can be made through a separate handheld programmer to reduce accidental changes to the system, and users can set control logic and parameters according to their needs.


Working Principle: By receiving sensor signals such as temperature, pressure, and rotational speed of the steam turbine, it monitors the operating status of the turbine in real-time. After calculation and processing by the internal 16-bit, 12MHz microprocessor, it outputs control signals to actuators such as control valves and governors, realizing precise control of the steam turbine and ensuring its efficient and stable operation under various working conditions.
