Large Diameter Thickener Tank
Large Diameter Thickener Tank
1. Product Introduction
High Volumetric Throughput: The expansive surface area allows the tank to continuously process massive volumes of low-density slurry, making it essential for high-tonnage mining and industrial operations.
Superior Clarification Quality: The large diameter creates a low upward fluid velocity, allowing even very fine particles ample time to settle, resulting in exceptionally clean overflow water.
Enhanced Sludge Compression: The deep mud bed and large bottom area provide prolonged retention time, allowing gravity to naturally compress the solids into a highly concentrated underflow.
Economical Scale Efficiency: Processing a massive volume in a single large tank lowers capital and maintenance costs compared to operating multiple smaller thickeners.
2. Working Principle
A Large Diameter Thickener Tank is a heavy-duty sedimentation structure (typically ranging from 30 meters to over 100 meters in diameter) engineered for large-scale solid-liquid separation. It can be constructed as an on-ground steel tank or a concrete structure built into the earth.
Key Features:
Massive Bridge or Center Pier Structure: A heavy-duty steel bridge (peripheral drive) or center column (center drive) that supports the immense weight of the drive mechanism and rakes.
High-Torque Drive & Smart Rake Lift: An industrial planetary or hydraulic drive system that provides the extreme torque required to move through heavy mud, featuring automated lifts to prevent rake damage under high loads.
Extended Rake Arm Assembly: Specially engineered, truss-style rake arms with angled blades designed to sweep the entire expansive floor area.
Advanced Feedwell & Launder System: A large central feedwell optimized for uniform slurry distribution, paired with peripheral V-notch overflow weirs to collect clean water evenly.
3. Industrial Line Advantages
The tank operates on the principle of continuous gravity sedimentation accelerated by chemical flocculation over a large surface area:
Slurry Distribution: Low-density slurry enters the large central feedwell, where it is mixed with polymer flocculants. The chemicals cause fine suspended particles to clump together into large, heavy aggregates called "flocs."
Radial Settling: As the treated slurry flows outward from the center, the heavy flocs rapidly sink to the bottom of the tank due to gravity, while the water flows toward the outer perimeter.
Bed Consolidation & Raking: The settled solids form a thick sludge layer on the tank floor. The massive rake arms rotate slowly, gently channeling through the sludge to release trapped water bubbles and gradually plowing the dense solids toward the central discharge cone.
Dual Stream Discharge: Clear, clarified water overflows the peripheral weirs into a collection launder for immediate reuse. Simultaneously, automated underflow pumps extract the highly concentrated, compacted mud from the bottom cone for disposal or downstream filtration.
