Basic Information

Construction grade Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose HPMC, thickening water retaining HPMC for putty, high viscosity HPMC for tile adhesive, retarding lubricating HPMC for gypsum, anti-sagging stabilizer HPMC for dry mortar. It is nonionic water-soluble cellulose ether with white free-flowing powder appearance, soluble in cold and hot water with stable chemical properties. As essential functional additive HPMC for dry-mix building materials, it features thickening, bonding, retarding, lubrication and anti-sagging functions. With low impurity and stable batch viscosity, this HPMC is widely used in wall putty, tile glue, plaster mortar, gypsum products and water-based coatings.

Product Overview

Hydroxypropyl Methylcellulose HPMC is modified nonionic cellulose ether made from natural cotton linter via alkalization, etherification and refining process, non-toxic, odorless and biodegradable. Its core advantage is outstanding water retention to lock moisture inside mortar, preventing cracking, hollowing and powdering caused by fast dehydration and guaranteeing full hydration. It provides stable thickening and thixotropy to avoid sagging during vertical construction, delays cement and gypsum hydration for longer open time. Resistant to weak acid and alkali, it mixes well with various building additives for dry mortar and coating thickening.

Main Features

  1. Superior water retention slows down water evaporation, preventing cracking, hollowing and powdering of mortar and putty.

  2. Good thickening and thixotropy improve wall-hanging performance, no sagging or dripping on vertical surfaces.

  3. Moderate retarding and lubrication extend construction time, keep good workability even under high temperature.

  4. Fast dissolution in cold water without heating, no agglomeration, suitable for automatic dry powder production.

  5. Stable chemical performance, resistant to weak acid and alkali, slight viscosity loss under high temperature, high compatibility with cement and latex powder.

  6. Low effective dosage with stable finished strength, consistent batch viscosity and high cost performance for mass building production.

Usage Method

  1. Dissolution: Pre-mix with dry powder before adding water, or disperse in warm water then dilute with cold water under continuous stirring.

  2. Reference Dosage: 0.2%–0.4% for wall putty; 0.15%–0.35% for tile adhesive; 0.25%–0.5% for gypsum, adjust according to temperature.

  3. Feeding Process: Pre-blend evenly with cement, sand and calcium powder first before water mixing for better dispersion.

  4. Storage: Seal tightly in cool dry warehouse, keep away from moisture and sunlight; crushed caked material can still be used normally.
