1. Product Overview

Flat steel (commonly known as flat iron) is a long strip of section steel with a standard rectangular cross-section and passivated rounded edges. As a general basic profile steel, it features a width of 12–300 mm, a thickness of 3–60 mm, and a width-thickness ratio of no less than 3 mm. With smooth and burr-free side edges, it can be used directly as a finished product or applied as the raw material for welded pipes and thin plate rolling. It is widely used in construction, electric power, machinery, municipal engineering, new energy and other industrial fields.

2.1 Classification by Production Process

2.1.1 Hot-rolled Flat Steel (Mainstream Product)

Process: Formed by high-temperature rolling at 1000–1250℃ followed by air cooling and shearing.

Appearance: With oxidized black surface, moderate flatness and standard tolerance.

Performance: Excellent plasticity, toughness and weldability with low cost.

Application: Steel structure construction, electric power grounding, guardrails, supports and general mechanical components.

2.1.2 Cold-drawn / Cold-rolled Precision Flat Steel

Process: Cold precision drawing and rolling at room temperature with pickling to remove oxide scale.

Appearance: Smooth and oxide-free surface, high straightness, ultra-small dimensional tolerance (±0.02~±0.1mm).

Performance: Work-hardened with higher hardness and high dimensional accuracy for precise assembly.

Application: Precision equipment, mold accessories, automated frames and high-precision hardware parts.

2.1.3 Forged Flat Steel

Process: High-temperature forging forming with dense internal structure without porosity or looseness.

Performance: High strength and strong impact resistance, specially designed for heavy-load thick specifications.

2.2.1 Ordinary Carbon Flat Steel

Q235B: Universal grade with good weldability and bendability, the first choice for construction, electric power and guardrail projects.

2.2.2 High-strength Low-alloy Flat Steel

1. Black Flat Steel: Original hot-rolled surface with the lowest cost, suitable for indoor internal structural parts and non-exposed load-bearing components.

2. Hot-dip Galvanized Flat Steel: Zinc layer ≥85μm with superior anti-rust and anti-corrosion performance, adaptable to harsh outdoor environments, widely used in grounding projects, photovoltaic supports, road guardrails and municipal steel structures.

3. Electro-galvanized Flat Steel: Thin zinc layer of 5–15μm with smooth and bright appearance and moderate anti-rust performance, suitable for indoor distribution cabinets, decorative supports and small hardware accessories.
