GYGD-IV Rotary Borehole Inspection Camera: Bringing Downhole Capability to Offshore and Underwater Structures

Offshore platforms, subsea pipelines, and underwater foundations present unique inspection challenges: saltwater corrosion, marine growth, limited access, and extreme depths. The GYGD-IV Rotary Borehole Inspection Camera is subsea‑rated (with optional depth‑compensated housing) and has been used successfully in offshore oil & gas, submarine cable routing, and port infrastructure projects. For offshore engineers, ROV pilots, and marine contractors, this camera extends proven borehole technology to the underwater world.

Subsea Wellhead and Conductor Inspection
Before a subsea well is abandoned or a new well is spudded, the wellhead and conductor casing must be inspected for damage. The GYGD-IV can be deployed from a surface vessel or an ROV (remotely operated vehicle) to descend through the conductor and inspect the casing below the mudline. The corrosion‑resistant housing (special marine coating) and sacrificial anodes prevent galvanic corrosion during extended deployments.

Offshore Platform Foundation Piles
Many offshore platforms are supported by piles driven into the seabed. Over time, the pile annulus (the gap between the pile and the surrounding soil) may erode, compromising lateral stability. The GYGD-IV can be lowered inside the pile to inspect the annulus through pre‑drilled holes or to measure the thickness of remaining grout. The pan‑and‑tilt rotation allows inspection of the entire circumference, identifying localized scouring.

Submarine Cable and Pipeline Trench Inspection
Submarine power cables and pipelines are often buried in trenches for protection. After trenching, the GYGD-IV can be deployed through a small diameter access tube to inspect the cable or pipe and the surrounding backfill. High‑resolution video confirms that the cable is at the specified depth, that there are no voids, and that rock armor is properly placed. This as‑built verification is often required by regulatory agencies.

Port and Harbor Infrastructure
Bridge piers, wharves, and lock gates often have deep foundation elements extending below water. The GYGD-IV can inspect the submerged portions of these structures, looking for cracking, spalling, or corrosion. The saltwater‑compatible cable and marine connectors withstand prolonged immersion. The clarity of the camera is particularly valuable in turbid harbor waters, where standard ROV cameras struggle.
