Paraffin Block Cabinet with Anti-Rust Steel Base — Moisture-Proof Tissue Block Storage for Hospital Labs
Product Overview
This 5-drawer paraffin block cabinet is part of our pathology storage line.
The first step in pathology is making paraffin blocks — embedding tissue samples in paraffin wax. These blocks need to stay dry. If the wax absorbs moisture and melts, the tissue is ruined and can't be sectioned again.
5 drawers hold approximately 3,700 paraffin blocks. In a standard pathology workflow, one block corresponds to one section and one pathology report — and that block may be needed for years. This cabinet covers 5-8 years of storage for a mid-size hospital pathology lab.
The body is cold-rolled steel with electrostatic powder coating. The base is stainless steel — built to handle moisture. Paraffin is sensitive to humidity. We put real effort into moisture protection.
How We Became a Pathology Cabinet Specialist
To be honest, we didn't start out specializing in lab cabinets. In the beginning, we made everything — filing cabinets, instrument cabinets, wardrobe lockers. Any order we could get.
The turning point was 2018. A county hospital in Henan bought 20 painted steel cabinets from us for paraffin block storage. The next year, during the rainy season, moisture seeped up from the floor on the first floor. The paraffin blocks stuck to the cabinet base. The wax melted, the tissue samples were ruined, and the entire lab's archive was lost.
The department head called us. I still remember the tone of that call — not angry, just helpless. "What do we do now?"
We thought about it for a long time after that. Painted steel is cheap, but it doesn't belong in a pathology lab. Moisture is the one thing it can't handle.
So we decided: for our pathology cabinet line, stainless steel bases only. Not a premium material — just moisture-resistant, durable. Paraffin blocks are far more valuable than glass slides. You can't afford to lose them.
Since then, we separated pathology cabinets from our general cabinet business. We don't chase volume — we focus on getting this category right. That's the difference between us and a general filing cabinet factory — we've made the mistakes, and we know pathology cabinets aren't the same as office cabinets.
Five Things We Do Differently
① Stainless Steel Base, Seals Out Floor Moisture
First-floor labs, basement labs — moisture comes up from the floor. A painted steel base shows rust spots in 3 months, and rust grows from the inside out. You can't stop it. Our base is stainless steel. Moisture stays out.
In 2019, we shipped a batch to a county hospital in Guangxi. Their lab is on the first floor. When we followed up last year, the department head said the base was still perfect. Dry.
② Deeper Drawers, Paraffin Blocks Fit
Paraffin blocks are thicker than slides — a cassette is about 7mm, plus the cassette itself adds more thickness. A shallow drawer simply won't fit them. Our drawers are designed specifically for paraffin blocks — there's room to spare, cassettes don't get compressed against the lid.
③ 5 Drawers, Not 3 or 6
Paraffin block cabinets are different from slide cabinets. You don't access blocks frequently — the priority is capacity and sealing. 5 drawers is the most common spec hospitals ask for. 3 is too few, 6 is too wide to fit through standard doors. 5 is what we settled on after talking to a dozen hospitals.
④ Fully Assembled, Ready on Arrival
Ships fully assembled. No on-site assembly required. You don't want to be dismantling door frames to get a cabinet into a room — that's unnecessary hassle.
⑤ Cold-Rolled Steel Frame, Load-Rated
One drawer of paraffin blocks weighs 8-10 lbs easily, over 100 lbs fully loaded. If the frame is flimsy, it wobbles when someone leans on it. Ours uses thickened cold-rolled steel — no deformation under load, stable even when moved on casters.

Who Uses This Cabinet
Hospital Pathology Departments — our largest customer group. Steady daily block production. A mid-size county hospital can fill a room with blocks in two years without proper storage.
Third-Party Lab Chains — high-volume tissue processing. They care about capacity more than hospitals do.
Medical University Research Labs — long-term archive of research samples. They care about moisture protection more than we do.
Primary Care Clinics — township health centers, community clinics. Getting the cabinet through the door is often the key constraint.
FAQ
Q: How long can paraffin blocks last? Will they get moist? A: Paraffin itself has some moisture resistance. In normal indoor conditions, blocks last over a decade. The key is preventing external moisture — that's why we use stainless steel bases. As long as the floor isn't flooded, the blocks are fine.
Q: We're a county hospital, our lab is on the second floor. Is that okay? A: Second floor is much better than first floor. Should be fine. If you're in southern China during rainy season, just put a moisture barrier pad under the cabinet — double protection.
Q: How many blocks fit in one drawer? A: About 700-800 cassettes per drawer, ~3,700 total for 5 drawers. Based on your lab's daily output, you can calculate how many years this covers.
Q: Can we customize? We need a different drawer count. A: Yes, we can discuss it. 3-drawer, 6-drawer, 9-drawer — all possible. Send us your requirements and we'll assess feasibility and pricing.
Q: What does OEM include? We want our own logo. A: Silkscreen logo, custom packaging, custom manuals — all included. Send us your logo files and we'll apply them to the packaging. MOQ and pricing — let's discuss your specific needs.
