Lockable Microscope Slide Cabinet with Key-Lock Drawers — Secure Long-Term Storage for High-Value Samples

Product Overview

This lockable slide cabinet is the security-upgraded version in our pathology storage line.

Standard slide cabinets work fine, but some scenarios have special security requirements. Forensic labs, research archives, pharmaceutical toxicology — in these places, glass slides aren't just medical records. They're evidence, intellectual property, or long-term research materials. If samples go missing or get swapped, the consequences are serious.

This cabinet has the same structure as our standard 18-drawer slide cabinet, but every drawer has its own lock. Keys are managed centrally. Ships fully assembled — ready to use on arrival, no lock adjustment needed.

When Do You Need a Lockable Slide Cabinet?

Let me describe a few situations we've actually seen:

Forensic labs — slides are evidence. If evidence goes missing or gets swapped, the case is compromised. A lock doesn't guarantee theft prevention, but it creates access control — there's a record of who has the key, who opened which drawer. We shipped a batch to a forensic center in Guangdong, and they told us later that management got a lot cleaner. At least it's no longer "anyone can open anything."

Pharmaceutical toxicology labs — animal tissue slides from drug R&D are part of intellectual property. If they leak out, it's a big problem. A lockable cabinet creates at least basic physical access control. That's a compliance baseline.

University research labs — high graduate student turnover, sample management gets messy. Lockable cabinets prevent samples from being taken by mistake or on purpose. We once talked to a professor whose students kept "borrowing" samples for their own projects. The samples never came back, and his paper data was gone.

Public hospital pathology departments — they have the need too, but public hospitals care more about capacity and cost-effectiveness. Locks aren't the priority. So we mainly pitch this model to the first three customer types.

A Few Design Choices We Made on the Locking System

① Independent lock per drawer, not one master lock

Cheap lockable cabinets use one master lock for all drawers. Problem: you open one drawer, all the others open too — pointless. Ours has independent key locks per drawer. One key opens one drawer. Finer access control. Forensic centers like this because they can assign different keys to different case files.

② Keys can be managed centrally

Each key has a number. The lock cores are traceable. Once you receive the cabinet, you decide how to distribute keys and who manages which one. We don't run your internal management — but the product design leaves room for access control.

③ Stainless steel base, moisture-resistant

Same as the standard version — stainless steel base. Lockable cabinets usually store more valuable samples, so moisture protection matters even more.

④ 18 drawers — capacity isn't reduced by the locks

Some manufacturers reduce the drawer count on lockable versions to save on lock costs. Ours stays at 18 drawers — same capacity as the standard version. Locks or no locks, storage power stays the same.

⑤ Fully assembled, locks pre-adjusted at factory

The cabinet is fully assembled and locked at the factory before shipping. Customer unlocks and uses immediately — no fiddling with misaligned lock cylinders after delivery. We've seen customers receive poorly adjusted locks where the key won't turn, and they had to ship it back. We don't do that.

Who Uses This Cabinet

Forensic Labs — core customers. Evidence management has regulations. Lockable is a baseline requirement.

FAQ

Q: Are the keys the same for all drawers? Can one key open everything? A: No, each drawer has its own independent key. You decide how to distribute them after delivery. We provide the physical locks — your internal management system handles the rest.

Q: What if we lose the keys? A: The lock cores are standard parts. Any local locksmith can make duplicates. Or you can proactively make spare copies — we don't manage that, you keep control.

Q: How much more expensive is the lockable version vs. standard? A: A few hundred RMB more, basically the lock cost plus assembly labor. Not a huge premium. Send us an inquiry and we'll quote the actual number.

Q: Can we customize? Change to electronic locks or other types? A: Yes, we can discuss it. Key locks are the baseline. If you need electronic locks, code locks, or other access control methods, send us your requirements and we'll assess feasibility.

Q: What does OEM include? A: Silkscreen logo, custom packaging box, and custom manual. Send us your logo and artwork, and we handle the rest. MOQ and pricing — let's talk about your specific needs.
