Angle Steel Product Specification
Angle steel, commonly known as angle iron, is a long steel product with an L-shaped cross section and two sides forming a 90° right angle. It belongs to simple section steel, and is divided into equal angle steel and unequal angle steel.
1. Product Classification
1.1 By Cross-Section Shape
Equal Angle Steel: Two sides have the same width. Specification is marked as Side Width × Side Width × Thickness (mm), e.g., ∠50×50×5.
Unequal Angle Steel: Two sides have different widths. Specification is marked as Long Side × Short Side × Thickness (mm), e.g., ∠63×40×6.
1.2 By Production Process
Hot Rolled Angle Steel: The mainstream product with original hot rolled surface. It features good strength and toughness at a low cost.
Cold Rolled Angle Steel: Smooth surface and high dimensional accuracy, mainly used for precision components.
1.3 By Surface Treatment
Black Surface Angle Steel: Original hot rolled finish. Painting or oil coating is required for rust prevention.
Galvanized Angle Steel (Hot-dip / Electro-galvanized): Excellent anti-corrosion performance, ideal for outdoor and humid environments.
Painted / Oil-coated Angle Steel: For temporary rust protection, convenient for storage and processing.
2. Specifications & Models (Standard: GB/T 706-2016)
2.1 Equal Angle Steel (Size 2# – 20#)
Side width: 20–200 mm; Side thickness: 3–24 mm; Standard length: 4–12 m (commonly 6 m, 9 m, 12 m).The model number refers to the side width in centimeters, e.g., Model 3# means 30 mm side width.
2.2 Unequal Angle Steel (Size 3.2/2# – 20/12.5#)
Long side: 25–250 mm; Short side: 16–160 mm; Side thickness: 3–18 mm.
2.3 Theoretical Weight (kg/m)
Calculation formula for equal angle steel:W = 0.00785 × Thickness × (2 × Side Width − Thickness)Example: Theoretical weight of ∠50×5 is approximately 3.73 kg/m.
3. Material & Chemical Composition
3.1 Common Materials (Standards: GB/T 700, GB/T 1591)
Q235B: Ordinary carbon structural steel with good ductility and weldability, the most widely used grade.
Q355B (Q345B): Low-alloy high-strength steel with high tensile strength, applied for heavy-load and seismic structures.
3.2 Typical Chemical Composition of Q235B
Carbon (C) ≤ 0.22%; Manganese (Mn): 0.30%–0.65%; Phosphorus (P) ≤ 0.060%; Sulfur (S) ≤ 0.060%.
4. Dimensional & Shape Tolerance (GB/T 706-2016)
Side width: ±1 mm (≤56 mm); ±1.5 mm (>56 mm)
Side thickness: ±0.4 mm (general standard)
Curvature: ≤0.4% of total length; Total overall curvature: ≤0.6% of total length
Weight tolerance: ±5% for bulk goods

8. Packaging, Marking & Delivery

Marking: Each bundle is attached with a metal tag indicating specification, material grade, standard number, heat number and manufacturer.
Quality Documents: Material Test Certificate (MTC) is provided together with goods, including chemical composition, mechanical properties, surface quality and dimensional tolerance data.
9. Selection Guide
Load Requirement: Choose Q235B for light load, Q355B for heavy load and seismic projects.
Service Environment: Black surface for indoor dry areas; hot-dip galvanized for outdoor and humid conditions; stainless steel for corrosive environments.
Specification Matching: Select side width and thickness according to stress calculation. Prioritize standard sizes instead of customized non-standard products.
Length Optimization: Confirm fixed length based on component size to minimize splicing and material waste. Standard lengths: 6 m, 9 m, 12 m.
