Detailed Description of Steel Sheet Piles
Steel sheet pile is a hot-rolled or cold-formed section steel with interlocking clutches. They can be connected tightly via clutches to form continuous retaining and water-stop retaining walls, widely applied in foundation pit support, water conservancy, port and other projects, featuring high strength, excellent water tightness and recyclable utilization.
1. Product Classification
1.1 By Production Process
Hot-rolled Steel Sheet Pile: Rolled under high temperature above 1000℃, featuring compact structure, high strength and good durability, suitable for large-scale, heavy-load and permanent projects.
Cold-formed Steel Sheet Pile: Continuously cold-bent from steel strips, cost-effective with flexible specifications, ideal for medium and small-sized temporary projects.
1.2 By Section Shape
U-type (PU): The most widely used type with U-shaped cross-section and side clutches. It boasts fine bending resistance and stability, easy for construction, applicable to shallow & deep foundation pits, wharves and dykes.
Z-type (PZ): Z-shaped cross-section with clutches on flanges. It has high section modulus per unit width and superior bending resistance, suitable for deep foundation pits, river courses and cross-sea projects.
Straight-web Type (PI): Simple flat structure with light weight, used for small-scale support and temporary water retaining.
Others: H-type, pipe-type etc., popular in European and American markets with less domestic demand.
1.3 By Material Grade
Q235B: Low carbon steel with moderate strength and good plasticity, the preferred choice for ordinary temporary projects.
Q345B (S355GP): High-strength low-alloy steel with excellent toughness and bearing capacity, commonly used for deep foundation pits and permanent structures.
SY295, GR50: Special high-strength steel for heavy-load and high-water-head water conservancy projects.
SS400B: Popular export grade with equivalent performance to Q235B.
2. Main Specifications & Parameters
2.1 Hot-rolled U-type (Larssen Series)
SP-III (Larssen Type 3): 400×125×13mm, theoretical weight 60kg/m, applied to shallow low pile caps and ordinary foundation pits.
SP-IV (Larssen Type 4): 400×170×15.5mm, theoretical weight 76.1kg/m, suitable for deep foundation pits, ports and wharves.
U120/U140: Width 240/270mm, height 120/140mm, thickness 8-12mm, for small foundation pits and temporary soil retaining.
2.2 Hot-rolled Z-type
Z160/Z180: Width 300/320mm, height 160/180mm, thickness 8-12mm, used for deep foundation pits and underground engineering.
2.3 Length & Delivery
Standard lengths: 6m, 9m, 12m, 15m, 18m; customized lengths available, max 24m for cold-formed type and 33m for hot-rolled type.Goods can be delivered by actual weight or theoretical weight.

6. Installation & Maintenance
6.1 Construction Methods
Vibratory Hammer Method: Most commonly used, high efficiency for soft soil and sand soil strata.
Static Pile Pressing Method: No noise and vibration, priority choice near buildings and pipelines.
Pile Driving Method: Equipped with pile cap to protect pile head, suitable for hard soil strata.
6.2 Clutch Treatment
Clean sundries inside clutches before construction, daub butter or special water-stop agent to ensure tight sealing.Stagger pile joints over 1m to avoid water seepage.
6.3 Maintenance & Recycling
Clean pile body and check clutch deformation and corrosion after construction; derust and paint for slight rusty parts.Pull out piles with vibratory hammer gently to avoid deformation; classify and stack recycled piles for reuse.
