NA-21 is the third-generation transparent nucleating agent developed and manufactured by Japan's ASAHI DENKA Company. It is currently the most effective and safest PP transparent modification additive in the international market. Just by adding 0.1 to 0.2% to PP, it can significantly enhance the transparency.

 

The characteristics of NA-21 anti-reflective PP are as follows:

◆High transparency and high gloss

◆Enhanced cost-effectiveness - PP has a low cost and low density, which can replace many more expensive plastics

◆Improved physical properties - high rigidity and higher heat deformation temperature (heat resistance)

◆Good processing thermal stability - no off-gassing occurs during the processing

◆Shortened PP processing cycle - increasing the initial crystallization temperature of PP by 17℃, enabling the parts to peel off earlier and thus improving production efficiency

◆Also suitable for transparent modification of LDPE

PET Suitable for packaging carbonated beverages. Poor chemical corrosion resistance.  

HDPE Excellent toughness. Very cheap, but opaque.  

PS Excellent transparency, but the products are not resistant to high temperatures.

Transparent PP Density is 40% lower, lower packaging cost per volume, better heat resistance. Air insulation is worse than PET, but has better moisture barrier. It is the preferred choice for packaging food or moisture-sensitive food (such as painkillers). Transparent PP packaging is more aesthetically pleasing, with only a slight increase in cost. Physical properties and environmental friendliness of polyolefins are excellent. Impact strength is much better than PS, and there are fewer problems caused by damage compared to PS container products. Moisture resistance is 10 times better than PS, and the density is 15% lower. Used for beverage cups, CD packaging boxes, vitamin bottles, etc. Good fatigue and bending resistance.

Uses of transparent PP NA-21

Containers Home containers, storage boxes, storage containers, cleaning agent bottles, microwave oven utensils, medical syringes, medical solvent bottles, electric iron water tank, coffee pot, lunch box, water bottle, milk bottle, medicine bottle, disposable water cup, etc.

Plates Files, floor covering materials, medical trays, COOKIE trays, etc.

Films Medical films, candy packaging paper, photo album protective layer, biaxially oriented films, etc.

Polypropylene (PP) has good physical and chemical properties and processing performance, and is inexpensive, so it is widely used. However, the application of PP in some aspects is limited by its opacity. By adding nucleating agents, it can accelerate the crystallization of PP and micro-nucleate the crystal structure, improving the high transparency of PP is one of the active research fields in the PP processing industry.

Nucleating transparent agents are effective modifiers to improve the transparency of PP. It is a kind of polypropylene functional additive that emerged in foreign countries in recent years, used to increase the crystallinity of semi-crystalline resins such as PP, micro-nucleate the crystal structure, increase the rigidity of the product, increase the transparency and gloss of the product, etc.

In Europe, transparent PP is replacing PVC and PS packaging materials, and it has the potential to reduce weight and lower costs. Cups, lids and covers are other target markets for transparent PP. In Japan, transparent PP has established industrial containers and medical syringe markets, and is entering the PS field for video tapes and floppy disks. Detailed specifications can be requested!

ADK STAB NA-21 is a newly invented product by Japan's Asahi Chemical Company, a transparent nucleating agent for polyolefins. It has the following characteristics:

1. Anti-reflective polyolefin, polypropylene.

2. Gives polyolefin the best surface smoothness.

3. Good processing thermal stability, no odor generation.

4. The anti-reflective effect is not affected by the processing process.

5. Increases the crystallization temperature of polyolefin, accelerates the processing and molding process of polyolefin.

ADK STAB NA-21 is effective for injection or extrusion of polyolefin, polypropylene. It is suitable for food packaging or applications with strict requirements for packaging odor.  

Processing conditions:

1. Addition amount

PP 100

Catalytic deactivators (DHT-4A, Ca-St, etc.) 0.1

ADK STAB AO-60 0.1

ADK STAB AO-2112 0.1 - 0.2

ADK STAB NA-21 0.1 - 0.2

2. Processing procedure

1) Mixing  The minimum mixing time should be 5 minutes or more using a Henshel mixer (1000 revolutions per minute). (Prolonged dispersion is very important) 

2) Extrusion  Temperature  240 - 250℃ (Better with a twin-screw extruder)

3) Injection  Temperature  200℃

3. Effects on different types of PP

1) Homopolymer PP  Can improve transparency and elastic modulus

2) Random PP  Improves transparency

3) Block PP  Improves elastic modulus

Usage instructions:

1) Dispersion  Pre-mixing is very important. We recommend that you use a Henshel mixer to fully mix for more than 7 minutes.

2) Effect of deactivators  When adding NA-21, adding 0.2% of catalytic deactivators (DHT-4A, Ca-St, Zn-St) has no effect on the increase in transparency.

3) Antioxidant  It is recommended to add 0.1% of antioxidant AO-60 (blocked phenol) and 0.1% of AO-2112 (blocked amine) to achieve better transparency.

4) Processing conditions  The processing conditions have no effect on the performance of NA-21.

5) Effect of phosphites  If phosphites are lacking, NA-21 may have an impact on the color of PP. We recommend that you increase the dosage of phosphites or use high-quality phosphites.
