It is an indispensable and important component, especially in the production of special mortars (modified mortars). The important roles of water-soluble Wenlun gum in mortar mainly include three aspects. One is excellent water retention ability, the second is the influence on the consistency and thixotropy of mortar, and the third is the interaction with cement. The water retention effect of Wenlun gum depends on the water absorption of the base layer, the composition of the mortar, the thickness of the mortar layer, the water demand of the mortar, and the setting time of the setting material. The greater the viscosity of Wenlun gum, the better the water retention performance. Viscosity is an important parameter of Wenlun gum. For the same product, the viscosity results measured by different methods vary greatly, and some even show a multiple difference. Therefore, when comparing viscosities, it must be done between the same testing methods, including temperature, rotors, etc.
Generally speaking, the higher the viscosity, the better the water retention effect. However, the higher the viscosity, the higher the molecular weight, and the corresponding solubility will decrease, which has a negative impact on the strength and construction performance of the mortar. The higher the viscosity, the more obvious the thickening effect on the mortar, but it is not a proportional relationship. The higher the viscosity, the stickier the wet mortar will be. During construction, it will be sticky to the trowel and have high adhesion to the substrate. But it doesn't help much in increasing the structural strength of the wet mortar itself. During construction, it shows that the anti-sagging performance is not obvious.
The greater the addition amount of Wenlun gum in the mortar, the better the water retention performance. The higher the viscosity, the better the water retention performance.
The fineness of Wenlun gum also has a certain impact on its water retention. Generally speaking, for Wenlun gums with the same viscosity but different fineness, under the same addition amount, the finer the fineness, the better the water retention effect.
The water retention of Wenlun gum is not limited by the usage temperature. Its high-temperature resistance range is between 130 - 150. Its high-temperature resistance performance is significantly superior to products such as cellulose ether CMC and HPMC hydroxypropyl methyl cellulose on the market. The water retention of CMC decreases with the increase of temperature. Currently, special treatments such as etherification degree are needed to improve the effect, but it has a certain impact on cost consumption.
In addition, the thickening and thixotropy of Wenglun Gum: The second function of Wenglun Gum, the thickening effect, depends on conditions such as the degree of polymerization of Wenglun Gum, solution concentration, shear rate, and temperature. Relationship between consistency and modification: The addition of Wenglun Gum affects the water consumption of mortar. Changing the water-binder ratio of water to cement is the thickening effect. The higher the dosage, the greater the water consumption.
In summary, in ready-mixed mortar, Wenglun Gum plays the roles of water retention, thickening, and improving construction performance. Good water retention ability makes the cement hydration more complete, can improve the wet viscosity of wet mortar, enhance the bonding strength of mortar, and adjust the time. Adding Wenglun Gum to mechanically sprayed mortar can improve the spraying or pumping performance of the mortar, as well as the structural strength.
