I. Product Overview

Steel sheet piles are hot-rolled/cold-formed section steels with lock joints, which interlock with each other to form a continuous soil-retaining and water-retaining wall. Their core advantages include high strength, good water stop performance, reusability, and fast construction. They are widely used for temporary/permanent support in foundation projects and are suitable for complex construction scenarios in municipal, water conservancy, construction and other fields.

II. Product Classification

(1) By Production Process

  • Hot-rolled Steel Sheet Piles: Formed by one-time hot rolling, they have uniform material, high strength, precise lock joints and good durability. Suitable for deep foundation pits, high water pressure and permanent projects, they are the mainstream application type in the market currently.

  • Cold-formed Steel Sheet Piles: Formed by cold bending of thin plates, they have low cost, weak rigidity and convenient processing. They are mostly used for temporary support of shallow foundation pits, small cofferdams and other short-term projects.

(2) By Cross-sectional Shape

  • U-type (Larson Piles): The most widely used, with lock joints located on the neutral axis. The cross-section is symmetrical and stable, suitable for both temporary and permanent projects, and adaptable to most foundation pit and cofferdam scenarios.

  • Z-type: Optimal bending resistance, larger single-width bearing capacity, high construction efficiency and reasonable lock joint stress. Suitable for high-strength demand scenarios such as heavy-duty soil retaining, ports and terminals, and deep foundation pits.

  • Straight Web Type (Flat Plate): High lock joint strength and flat cross-section, mostly used for circular cofferdams, honeycomb structures, small water-retaining projects, and adaptable to special-shaped support needs.

III. Detailed Description of Material, Model and Size

(1) Material and Model

Steel sheet piles mainly adopt high-strength low-alloy materials, adapting to different engineering loads and environmental needs. The common materials, models and applicable scenarios are as follows:

  • Q355B: Mainstream national standard material, with yield strength ≥ 355MPa and tensile strength 470-630MPa. It has good toughness and corrosion resistance, suitable for most conventional projects such as municipal, construction and water conservancy, and is the most widely used material model.

  • SY295: Special hot-rolled steel sheet pile material, with yield strength ≥ 295MPa. It has high cost performance, mostly used for temporary shallow foundation pits, small soil-retaining projects, balancing economy and practicality.

  • SY390: High-strength material, with yield strength ≥ 390MPa and tensile strength ≥ 510MPa. Suitable for deep foundation pits, high water pressure, heavy load scenarios, such as ports, terminals and large-scale municipal projects.

  • S320GP/S355GP: European standard material, with uniform material, high lock joint precision and excellent corrosion resistance. Suitable for permanent projects, foreign-related projects and high-demand waterproof support projects.

(2) Size Specifications

The size of steel sheet piles is classified by cross-sectional shape. The core specifications are mainly hot-rolled U-type (Larson piles), while cold-formed, Z-type and straight web-type can be customized on demand. The specific sizes are as follows:

2. Size Reference for Other Types

  • Cold-formed Steel Sheet Piles: Cross-sectional width 200-400mm, height 100-150mm, thickness 3-8mm, length 3-12m, customizable on demand.

V. Performance Characteristics

  • High Strength: Excellent bending and shear resistance, uniform material, able to bear high loads under complex geological conditions, not easy to deform or break.

  • Water Stop and Seepage Prevention: The lock joints are precision-processed, closely interlocked with a gap ≤ 2mm, and have excellent water stop performance, suitable for waterproof demand scenarios such as high water levels and soft soil foundations.

  • Efficient Construction: Installation and extraction can be completed with a vibratory hammer or hydraulic pile driver, without large and complex equipment. The construction speed is fast, which greatly shortens the project period.

  • Reusability: The surface can be anti-corrosion treated (galvanized, painted), with corrosion resistance and long service life. It can be extracted and reused after a single project, reducing project costs.

  • Environmental Protection and Safety: No mud pollution during construction, stable support structure, which can effectively reduce the risks of slope collapse and soil erosion, meeting the requirements of green construction.

VI. Application Scenarios

  • Municipal Engineering: Deep foundation pit support, underground pipe gallery construction, subway station foundation pits, shield working shafts, soil retaining for urban road reconstruction and expansion.

  • Water Conservancy and Ports: River revetments, dock construction, terminal support, flood dike reinforcement, water conservancy cofferdams, reservoir seepage prevention projects.

  • Construction and Bridges: Building bearing platform foundation pits, temporary retaining walls, slope reinforcement, bridge foundation cofferdams, deep foundation pit support for high-rise buildings.

  • Other Scenarios: Sewage treatment pools, civil air defense projects, landfills, bridge construction with cofferdams, temporary drainage trench support.

VII. Quality Requirements

  • Appearance Quality: No cracks, no severe corrosion (corrosion depth ≤ 10% of wall thickness), no obvious deformation (bending degree ≤ 1% of pile length) on the surface, and no obvious scratches or burrs on the surface.

  • Lock Joint Quality: No cracks, curling or deformation of the lock joints, continuous gap ≤ 2mm, smooth interlocking, no looseness after trial assembly, ensuring water stop reliability.

  • Size Deviation: The deviations of cross-sectional width, height and thickness meet the corresponding implementation standards, the length deviation is ±50mm, and the deviation of custom-sized products can be adjusted according to needs.

  • Material Testing: Each batch of products is provided with a material testing report to ensure that the material composition and mechanical properties meet the standard requirements. A third-party testing report can be provided on demand.

VIII. Installation and Storage

(1) Installation Requirements

Installation is carried out using a vibratory hammer or hydraulic pile driver. Single-row or double-row arrangement is adopted according to engineering needs, special corner piles are used for connection at corners, and auxiliary supports such as steel supports and anchor rods are required when the depth is large to ensure wall stability; before installation, the sundries in the lock joints should be cleaned and lubricating oil should be applied to ensure tight interlocking.

(2) Storage Requirements

Place flat on a dry, ventilated and flat site, with the bottom raised ≥ 30cm to avoid direct contact with the ground to prevent moisture and corrosion; stack classified by specifications and lengths, with a stacking height not exceeding 5 layers to prevent extrusion deformation; avoid sun and rain, and anti-corrosion treatment (galvanizing, anti-corrosion painting) is required for long-term storage.

IX. Transportation and Delivery Cycle

(1) Transportation

  • Transportation Method: Flatbed trucks and semi-trailers are used for transportation. Suitable vehicle models are selected according to the length and quantity of steel sheet piles to ensure no deformation or damage during transportation.

  • Packaging and Protection: Each bundle of steel sheet piles is fixed with steel wire ropes, and the lock joints are wrapped with protective sleeves to prevent wear and deformation of the lock joints during transportation; the surface can be covered with waterproof cloth on demand to avoid moisture and corrosion during transportation.

  • Transportation Scope: National distribution, delivery from nearby warehouses, and logistics plans can be negotiated for remote areas; special personnel follow up during transportation to ensure that the goods are delivered on time and safely.

(2) Delivery Cycle

Conventional specifications (Larson Type Ⅲ, Ⅳ, standard lengths 6m, 9m, 12m) are in stock and will be delivered within 5-7 days after ordering; for custom-sized specifications, special materials and large orders, the delivery cycle can be adjusted according to the production progress, and the specific delivery time will be informed to the customer in advance to ensure that the project period is not affected.
