1. Product Overview

The TBL-1 Longwave Radiation Sensor (also known as a terrestrial radiation pyrgeometer) is designed to measure hemispherical incoming or outgoing longwave radiation from the sky and the Earth’s surface in the 3.5–50 μm infrared band. It outputs a voltage signal proportional to longwave irradiance.


A silicon hemispherical dome is mounted above the sensor to block shortwave radiation, while the inner surface of the hemisphere is coated with a high-transmittance vacuum-deposited filter (average transmittance > 40%). The TBL-1 complies with WMO (World Meteorological Organization) standards for longwave radiation measurements.


The sensor housing is made of cast brass with an anti-static electrostatic spray coating, ensuring excellent corrosion resistance and suitability for long-term outdoor use. It offers high sensitivity, stable performance, maintenance-free operation, and easy installation, making it widely applicable in meteorology, climate research, solar energy, agriculture, and environmental studies.

2. Working Principle

The TBL-1 uses a multi-junction thermopile as its sensing element, coated with a high-absorptivity black layer. The hot junction is located on the sensing surface, while the cold junction is inside the instrument housing, generating a temperature difference proportional to longwave radiation intensity within the operating range.


To minimize the influence of ambient temperature, the sensor includes an internal temperature compensation circuit, and the optical dome is made of precision-ground quartz glass with a double-layer hemispherical structure, significantly reducing infrared interference.


The instrument features a desiccant cartridge inside the housing to prevent moisture condensation, ensuring long-term measurement stability.
