I. Product Overview

The portion of solar radiation (with a spectral range of 400–700 nm) that can be utilized by green plants for photosynthesis is defined as Photosynthetically Active Radiation (PAR). As the fundamental energy source for biomass formation, PAR directly affects plant growth, development, yield, and product quality. The measurement of PAR is of great significance for agricultural production, ecological research, climate assessment, and other related fields.

The TBQ-5 Photosynthetically Active Radiation Sensor is a dedicated solar radiation sensor based on the photoelectric effect, designed specifically for measuring the PAR of natural light within the 400–700 nm wavelength range. Featuring simple operation, maintenance-free performance, and high measurement accuracy, it can be directly integrated into agricultural automatic weather stations and solar energy resource observation systems, serving as a fundamental tool for measuring the photosynthetically active component of solar radiation. Additionally, it can be independently used as a professional radiation sensor for agricultural and biological research applications.

II. Working Principle

The TBQ-5 Photosynthetically Active Radiation Sensor is designed and manufactured based on the principle verified by numerous experiments that the five major plant photoreactions—namely photosynthesis, pigment synthesis, photoperiodism, phototropism, and photomorphogenesis—all occur within the wavelength range of 400–700 nm.

It adopts silicon photodetectors and optical filters as its core components. When exposed to light, the sensor generates an analog signal that is directly proportional to the intensity of the incident radiation.
