I. Product Overview


Rockwell Automation 1794-IE8 is an analog input module in the Flex I/O series. It is mainly used to collect various continuously changing analog signals in industrial fields (such as temperature, pressure, flow, liquid level, current, voltage, etc.) and convert these signals into digital signals for transmission to control systems (such as FlexLogix, ControlLogix controllers), providing a basis for precise control and data analysis of the system. As an "analog sensing window" in industrial automation systems, it can capture subtle changes in on-site parameters, accurately reflect the continuous changes of non-electrical physical quantities (converted into electrical signals through sensors) or electrical signals to the controller, and is a key component for realizing closed-loop control and status monitoring of industrial processes. The module adopts a modular design, has strong compatibility with racks and other modules of the Flex I/O series, and is easy to install and wire. Electrical Parameters:


  • Operating Voltage: Adopts 24V DC power supply, which conforms to common power supply standards in the industrial field, facilitating matching with on-site power supplies and other equipment and ensuring the stable operation of the module.

  • Current Consumption: During normal operation, the current consumption is usually around 150mA (under 24V DC condition). It has low power consumption, which can effectively reduce the overall energy consumption of the system and is suitable for long-term continuous operation.


Input Parameters:


  • Number of Input Channels: It has 8 independent analog input channels, which can collect 8 analog signals at the same time. It meets the demand for multi-parameter parallel monitoring in medium and large industrial control scenarios, reduces the number of modules used, and optimizes the system layout.

  • Input Types: Supports various standard analog input signal types, commonly including 4-20mA DC current signals and 0-10V DC voltage signals.   • Sampling Rate: The sampling rate of each channel can be flexibly set, and the maximum sampling rate of a single channel can usually reach 100Hz, which can quickly respond to dynamic changes of signals and is suitable for monitoring process parameters with rapid changes (such as instantaneous pressure fluctuations, sudden flow changes).

  • Isolation Performance: Electrical isolation design is adopted between channels, with an isolation voltage usually of 250V AC, which can effectively prevent signal interference between different channels, especially suitable for complex industrial environments where multiple parameters are collected at the same time and signal sources have different grounding.


Environmental Parameters:


  • Operating Temperature: It can work stably in the temperature range of -25℃ to 70℃, adapting to temperature changes in different scenarios such as industrial production workshops, outdoor equipment rooms, high and low temperature process environments. Even in low-temperature refrigeration or high-temperature baking conditions, it can maintain reliable signal acquisition performance.

  • Relative Humidity: It can operate normally in a relative humidity environment of 5%-95% (non-condensing), and can cope with scenarios such as humid water treatment workshops and food processing workshops, effectively preventing circuit performance degradation or failures caused by humidity.


  • Anti-electromagnetic Interference: It complies with industrial electromagnetic compatibility standards (such as IEC 61000-6-2), has strong anti-electromagnetic interference ability, and can resist electromagnetic interference generated by industrial on-site motors, frequency converters, high-voltage equipment, etc., ensuring the stability and accuracy of analog signal acquisition.

  • Vibration and Shock Resistance: The vibration resistance range is 10-500Hz, with an amplitude of 0.38mm or an acceleration of 10g; the shock resistance range can reach 30g (11ms). It can withstand vibration and shock generated during the operation or transportation of industrial equipment, ensuring the stability of the module structure and circuit performance.

III. Functional Features


  • Multi-channel Analog Parallel Acquisition: The 8 input channels are independent of each other and can collect 8 different types of analog signals at the same time (for example, some channels collect temperature and some collect pressure), and the acquisition process of each channel does not interfere with each other. For example, in the control system of a chemical reactor, parameters such as temperature, pressure, liquid level, and stirring motor current in the reactor can be collected at the same time, providing comprehensive reaction status information for the controller and realizing comprehensive regulation of the reaction process.

  • High-precision and High-resolution Acquisition: The 16-bit conversion resolution and ±0.1% full-scale accuracy ensure that the module can capture subtle changes in analog signals. For example, in precision temperature control scenarios, it can accurately collect temperature fluctuations of ±0.1℃, enabling the controller to make timely adjustments to ensure that the temperature is controlled within the range required by the process.


  • Powerful Diagnostics and Self-calibration Functions: The module has a complete self-diagnostic function, which can real-time monitor whether the channel has faults such as disconnection, short circuit, and signal overrun, and upload the diagnostic information to the control system, facilitating maintenance personnel to quickly locate fault points (such as sensor disconnection, wiring errors). At the same time, it supports software self-calibration function. Users can calibrate the zero point and gain of the module through programming software to ensure measurement accuracy after long-term use and reduce errors caused by drift.


  • Status Indication and System Integration: The module is equipped with LED indicators, which can display the power status, communication status and channel fault status of the module in real time, facilitating operators to intuitively judge the operation of the module. As part of the Flex I/O series, 1794-IE8 can work seamlessly with Flex I/O racks, communication modules (such as 1794-ACN) and Logix series controllers. It transmits the collected digital signals to the controller through the rack backplane or communication network, with low data transmission delay and fast response. It supports parameter configuration and signal processing through RSLogix 5000 or Studio 5000 programming software, perfectly integrating with the control system, and the operation is convenient.
