I. Product Overview


Rockwell Automation 1769-OB16 is a digital output module in the CompactLogix series, mainly used to convert control instructions generated by the controller into executable digital signals in industrial fields, driving various actuators to act. As the "execution terminal" of the control system, it can receive instructions from the CompactLogix controller and send switch signals to contactors, solenoid valves, indicator lights, relays and other equipment through output channels, realizing control over the start/stop and action switching of various equipment in the industrial production process. The module adopts a modular design, perfectly compatible with 1769 series racks and controllers, with convenient installation. II. Performance Parameters


Power Parameters: It adopts a backplane power supply mode, obtaining working power from the CompactLogix rack, without the need for additional independent power supplies, which simplifies system wiring. At the same time, the output circuit requires an external 24V DC power supply to provide driving power for connected actuators. The external power input range is usually 10-30V DC, with a certain voltage adaptability, which can be compatible with industrial power supplies of different specifications.

Number of Output Points: It has 16 digital output channels, which can control 16 actuators at the same time, meeting the needs of multi-equipment linkage control in small and medium-sized industrial control scenarios, reducing the number of modules used and lowering system costs.
Output Type: Supports DC digital output, using transistor output mode with fast response speed, suitable for controlling equipment with high requirements for action timeliness.
Output Current: The maximum continuous output current of each channel is usually 0.5A, and the peak output current can reach 1A (with a limited duration, such as 100ms). It can directly drive loads such as small solenoid valves and relay coils. If it is necessary to control high-power equipment, an intermediate relay is required for conversion.
Response Time: The turn-on and turn-off response time of the output signal is short, generally within 1ms, which can quickly execute the instructions issued by the controller, ensuring the timeliness and accuracy of the actuator's actions.
Short-Circuit Protection: It has channel-level short-circuit protection function. When a short-circuit fault occurs in a certain output channel, it can automatically cut off the output of that channel, avoiding fault spread to damage the module or controller, and at the same time, it does not affect the normal operation of other channels, improving the safety and reliability of the system.


Environmental Parameters:
Operating Temperature: It can work stably in the temperature range of 0℃-60℃, adapting to temperature changes in conventional environments such as industrial production workshops and control cabinets, and maintaining reliable performance under high or low temperature conditions.
Relative Humidity: It can operate normally in a relative humidity environment of 5%-95% (non-condensing), coping with humid industrial places and effectively preventing circuit faults caused by humidity.
Anti-Electromagnetic Interference: It complies with industrial electromagnetic compatibility standards, has a certain anti-electromagnetic interference ability, and can resist electromagnetic interference generated by motors, frequency converters and other equipment in industrial sites, ensuring the stability of output signals.
Vibration and Shock Resistance: It has certain vibration and shock resistance. The vibration resistance range is 10-500Hz, with an amplitude of 0.38mm or an acceleration of 10g; the shock resistance range is generally 15g (11ms). It can withstand vibration and shock generated during the operation of industrial equipment, ensuring the stability of the module's structure and performance.

III. Functional Features


Independent Channel Control: The 16 output channels are independent of each other, and can respectively receive instructions from the controller for switching actions without interfering with each other. They can realize individual control or linkage control of different actuators, meeting diversified control needs.


Status Indication Function: The module is equipped with 16 LED indicators, corresponding to the output channels one by one, which can display the output status of each channel in real time (lights up when turned on, turns off when turned off). By observing the status of the indicators, operators can intuitively judge the working condition of each channel, facilitating quick troubleshooting of actuators or wiring faults and improving maintenance efficiency.

Overcurrent and Short-Circuit Protection: In addition to short-circuit protection, some models also have overcurrent protection function. When the output current exceeds the set threshold, the module will automatically cut off the output to protect the module and load equipment from damage. After the fault is eliminated, the module can automatically resume normal operation or reset through the controller, reducing manual intervention.


Compact Structure Design: It adopts the standardized size of 1769 series modules, with a compact structure and small volume, which can be directly installed on 1769 series racks, saving installation space. The wiring terminals adopt a plug-in design, making wiring convenient and fast, facilitating on-site installation and later maintenance, and improving work efficiency.
Seamless Integration with the System: As part of the CompactLogix series, 1769-OB16 can work seamlessly with the series' controllers and other I/O modules, transmitting data with the controller through the rack backplane, with fast response and low instruction execution delay. It can be configured and programmed through RSLogix 5000 programming software, perfectly integrating with the control system, and the operation is convenient.

IV. Application Scenarios


Machining Equipment: In machining equipment such as lathes, milling machines, and drilling machines, 1769-OB16 can receive instructions from the controller and control the start/stop of the equipment's spindle, feed movement, cooling pump switch, etc., through output channels. For example, when the controller detects the workpiece in-place signal, the module outputs a signal to start the spindle rotation and turn on the cooling pump at the same time, realizing automatic control of the machining process and improving machining efficiency and safety.


Assembly Line Production: In assembly line production such as electronic product assembly and food packaging, the module can control the actions of conveyor motors, pushing cylinders, sorting mechanisms and other equipment. According to the logical judgment of the controller, output signals drive corresponding actuators to realize operations such as conveying, positioning and sorting of workpieces, coordinate the working rhythm of each link of the assembly line, and ensure continuous and stable production.


Warehousing and Logistics Equipment: In stackers and conveyor line systems of automated warehouses, 1769-OB16 can control motor contactors, lifting solenoid valves, braking devices, etc. For example, after the controller issues a movement instruction according to the goods location information, the module outputs a signal to control the corresponding motor to start, driving the stacker to move to the specified position to complete the goods access operation, improving the automation level of warehousing and logistics.


Municipal and Environmental Protection Equipment: In sewage treatment equipment and water supply and drainage systems, the module can control the operation of water pumps, valves, grid machines and other equipment. According to the liquid level, pressure and other signals collected by the controller, output signals turn on or off the water pump and adjust the valve opening, realizing automatic control of the sewage treatment process or water supply pressure, ensuring stable operation of the equipment and saving energy.
