II. Performance Parameters

Electrical Parameters:

  • Operating Voltage: Adopts 24V DC power supply. This commonly used industrial DC voltage is convenient to adapt to various industrial power supplies, ensuring the stable operation of the module. Moreover, it is consistent with the power supply voltage of other components in the CompactLogix series, which is conducive to building a unified power supply system.

  • Current Consumption: The backplane current is limited to 1.4A. On the DeviceNet network side, the typical current consumption at 24V DC is 110mA, which is at a low level in terms of overall system power consumption, effectively controlling energy loss and reducing operating costs. At 5.2V DC, the Class 2 / SELV current consumption is 440mA, meeting the power demand under different voltage levels.

  • Power Consumption: When the module is working normally, the power consumption is approximately 4.7W. The low power consumption results in relatively little heat generation, which helps to improve the stability and service life of the module and reduce faults caused by overheating.

Communication Parameters:

  • Communication Protocol: Focuses on the DeviceNet communication protocol and serves as the master device in the DeviceNet network. It is responsible for managing data communication with slave devices (such as frequency converters, digital/analog I/O modules, sensors, etc.). Relying on this protocol, it can accurately and efficiently transmit data between master and slave devices, ensuring the accurate issuance of industrial control commands and the timely feedback of device status information.

  • Communication Rate: Supports three communication rates: 125Kbps (with a maximum transmission distance of 500m), 250Kbps (with a maximum transmission distance of 250m), and 500Kbps (with a maximum transmission distance of 100m). It can be flexibly configured according to the different requirements of data transmission rate and distance in actual industrial scenarios. For example, in areas where devices are relatively concentrated and high data real-time is required, the high rate of 500Kbps can be selected; in scenarios where devices are widely distributed and the transmission distance is long, it can be switched to 125Kbps to ensure stable signal transmission.

  • Number of Nodes: A single 1769-SDN module can support up to 64 nodes in the DeviceNet network. Its strong node capacity enables it to easily meet the access needs of numerous devices in complex industrial automation systems, building large-scale and hierarchical distributed control networks.

Physical Parameters:

  • Dimensions: The module has an outer size of 50mm in width, 118mm in height, and 87mm in depth. The overall structure is compact and small in size. When installed on the 1769 series rack, it occupies little space, which is beneficial to saving valuable space in the control cabinet and facilitating system layout and equipment integration.

  • Weight: The module weighs approximately 0.28kg. The light weight not only facilitates installation personnel to install and disassemble the module, reducing labor intensity, but also reduces the inconvenience caused by weight during equipment transportation and maintenance.

  • Installation Method: Supports multiple installation methods. It can be installed on a DIN rail, taking advantage of the convenient and firm installation of DIN rails to facilitate rapid assembly and later maintenance of equipment; it can also be directly installed on the control cabinet panel. The installation method can be flexibly selected according to the actual on-site space and installation requirements, enhancing the applicability of the module in different industrial environments.

Environmental Parameters:

  • Operating Temperature: Can work stably in the temperature range of 0℃-60℃. This temperature range covers the conventional temperature changes in most industrial production workshops and control cabinets. The module can operate normally whether in high-temperature steel smelting workshops or relatively low-temperature cold storage environments, ensuring the stability of communication.

  • Relative Humidity: Can operate normally in an environment with a relative humidity of 5%-95% (non-condensing). It has good tolerance to humid environments, can effectively avoid circuit short circuits, corrosion and other faults caused by humidity problems, and is suitable for industrial production scenarios with high humidity such as textile and food processing.

  • Anti-electromagnetic Interference: Complies with relevant industrial electromagnetic compatibility standards, such as IEC 61000-6-4. It has strong anti-electromagnetic interference ability, can resist strong electromagnetic interference generated by motors, frequency converters, electric welders and other equipment in industrial sites, ensuring stable transmission of DeviceNet network communication signals and avoiding data packet loss, wrong transmission and other situations.

  • Vibration and Shock Resistance: The module can work normally under the conditions of vibration tolerance range of 10-500Hz, amplitude of 0.38mm or acceleration of 10g, and impact tolerance range of generally 15g (11ms). It can withstand vibration and shock generated during the operation of industrial equipment, ensuring the integrity of the module structure and the stability of performance, and is suitable for industrial fields with large vibration and shock such as mining machinery and engineering machinery.

III. Functional Features

  • DeviceNet Master Control Function: As the master of the DeviceNet network, the 1769-SDN module can fully control the data communication of slave devices. It can actively poll slave devices, read data from slave devices (such as temperature and pressure data detected by sensors, feedback on the working status of actuators, etc.) quickly and orderly according to the preset communication cycle, and send control commands from the controller to the corresponding slave devices accurately, realizing real-time monitoring and precise control of the industrial automation production process. For example, in the automobile parts production line, the 1769-SDN module can coordinate and control sensors, pneumatic valves, motors and other equipment at each workstation to ensure the efficient and stable operation of the production line.

  • Flexible Communication Rate Configuration: Supports three communication rates: 125Kbps, 250Kbps, and 500Kbps. Users can flexibly adjust the communication rate according to the distribution of devices, data transmission volume and real-time requirements in actual application scenarios. When devices are concentrated in a small area and high data real-time is required, such as in robot assembly workstations, the rate can be set to 500Kbps to meet the needs of rapid transmission of large amounts of data; if devices are widely distributed and the transmission distance is long, such as in automated logistics conveyor lines in large warehouses, selecting 125Kbps can ensure that the signal remains stable during long-distance transmission and avoid data transmission errors caused by signal attenuation.

  • Powerful Network Diagnosis Function: The module has a complete network diagnosis function, which can monitor the operation status of the DeviceNet network in real time. Through its own LED indicators, it can intuitively display information such as whether the network connection is normal, whether there are errors in data transmission, and whether the module itself has faults. When an abnormality occurs in the network, the indicator light will issue an alarm with a specific flashing pattern or color change. At the same time, the module can generate a detailed diagnosis report internally, recording the time, type and possible causes of the fault, facilitating maintenance personnel to quickly locate and solve problems, greatly shortening the system fault troubleshooting time, and improving the reliability and availability of the industrial automation system.

  • Seamless Integration with CompactLogix System: Specifically designed for Rockwell CompactLogix PLC platform, it has excellent compatibility with controllers, I/O modules and other components of this series. It can be directly installed on the 1769 series rack, and perform high-speed data interaction with the PLC processor through the rack backplane. It can realize seamless integration with the entire CompactLogix system without complex interface conversion or additional communication protocol adaptation. This close integration feature makes it possible to easily expand system functions when building industrial automation control systems, facilitating users to flexibly configure equipment according to actual needs and improving the overall performance and scalability of the system.

  • Wide Device Compatibility: It can be compatible with many devices on the market that meet the DeviceNet protocol standards, whether it is various brands of sensors (such as proximity sensors, photoelectric sensors), actuators (such as solenoid valves, AC contactors), or intelligent I/O modules, frequency converters, etc., all can achieve stable connection and data communication. This provides users with great freedom in equipment selection when building industrial automation systems, eliminating worries about compatibility issues between devices of different brands, reducing the difficulty and cost of system integration, and promoting the diversification and personalization of industrial automation solutions.
